Last year, I lost my husband after thirty-one blessed years of marriage and caring for him during his long illness. Now, I miss male companionship--I like both men and women in my life. With my husband gone, it would be lovely to have a bit of friendship. I'm not looking for marriage or a deep relationship. Nothing sexual, just friendship--with me, you can sit back and relax.
I'm not even sure I want to do this; this is an experiment for me.
My profile picture was taken in June 2008, nine months before my beloved husband's cancer diagnosis. Since I know the majority of guys respond to looks, especially body, and honesty is important to me, I want to mention I've gained weight since then and at the moment I don't look as good as in my profile picture. But the basics are still there and my healthy feminine vanity leads me to post this picture because it feels like the "real me," and to look and feel like that again is what I'm aiming for. ) Caring for my husband for 2 1/2 years was overwhelming. I didn't have time to take care of myself, and I'm a stress eater, so I gained weight. His needs were great, and being his caregiver was exhausting at times, but I loved him with all my heart and would do it all again if only I could.
NOW, I'm exercising again and eating healthfully. I know I'll get back to my former, "real" self. In one year, I'll be in shape, healthier, and slimmer. I'll be skiing, swimming, hiking, and dancing, just like before. Already I've lost about a third of the weight I want to shed! Maybe the joys of your companionship will help my progress since I do have more to go.
So if you are a man who cares about gentleness and character more than a gal's temporary extra pounds, then contact me. Otherwise, wait a year and check back. But in a year, I may not be here--I'm losing, after all, looking and feeling better every day, and--sorry for the cliche, but the early bird gets the worm...
I have many interests and enjoy open-minded, non-judgmental men who love life and have many interests, too. I prefer a good conversationalist who speaks gently rather than loudly. The higher the educational level the better, but a bachelor's degree is great. Though I've taken enrichment classes after college in a variety of topics and probably have quivalent to a Masters in liberal studies, a B.A. is all I have, after all, so why should I require more of a guy?
I'm a writer and published author, a lover of story and language. I like a man who will sit and read a book, or at least the daily paper! I enjoy speaking French, Spanish, Italian, and some Japanese. I don't speak any like a native, but I'm fairly fluent in several. I love to ski and dance. (My husband and I did ballroom dancing. We even competed together.) I love Italian love songs, especially "La musica napolitana" and the beautiful instrument, the mandolin.I'm more spiritual than religious, but I take ethics seriously and go to church most Sundays. Raised Roman Catholic, I still love the church, but I've decided to affiliate with a more progressive community which encourages women rather than limiting us--so I'm now Episcopalian.
I'm still unsure I want to do this, but I'll hang in for a while and see what happens. Naturally, I'm grieving, but I've healed enough to want to get out and be with people. I still always love a good laugh.

Meet someone special from United States. I live alone with my two dogs and yes, you must at least like dogs. I retired after teaching elementary school for 32 years. I spend most of my time tending to my home, playing golf and basically enjoying life. Ideally, I hope to find someone who enjoys traveling as much as I do. Traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji was a trip of a lifetime and I loved every part of it.
My friends describe me as kind, energetic, dependable, adventurous, great hostess, and a good listener. Some of my photos were taken on my trip. The birthday ones were taken two years ago in Las Vegas. I prefer to see photos of you taken within the last two or three years.
I'm looking for someone who can find humor in everyday life. A good sense of humor is way up in my "must haves." You must be secure in your life, both emotionally and financially. I feel that chemistry plays an important part of a relationship, if that spark is missing from the very beginning, I doubt that it will develop later. My two kids are grown and I have 4 grand kids....two from each. My son and family live in LA so I spend a couple weeks down there every 3mths or so, not written in stone. My daughter lives in San Raphael and they have two little kids.
