During my 38 years of marriage and raising my five daughters, I bred, trained and showed Belgian Sheepdogs; I enjoyed some time in Nevada where I had horses, cows, pigs, chickens and rabbits. My girls were involved in 4-H, which gave me the opportunity to try my seat in barrel racing on two of my horses. FUN. IРІР‚в„ўve also enjoyed many summers camping, fishing, boating, and waterskiing. I've tried my hand (and shoulder) at deer, duck, quail and rabbit hunting. And helped my ex with his taxidermy business many years ago .Last year I tried my РІР‚?balanceРІР‚в„ў with Snowboarding and though I was successful as a beginner I think IРІР‚в„ўll leave the risk to the young. I recently read “…some of the most talented, skilled people in society retire every day - the baby boomers! They have been superstars all their lives, and they expect to still be superstars in retirement. For the most part, they aren't looking forward to baking cookies and building birdhouses.”
Yeah. I expect that. I do not want to bake cookies and build birdhouses and I am looking for an early boomer "superstar" to hang out with. In my view, superstars are people that other people follow..at least some of the time…not necessarily rich but leaders ...people who think up great ideas. Superstars are people who walk into places like Obama campaign headquarters and say simply “what can I do to help” and then DO it!!! They are people who look in the mirror at 68 and say,”Hey, I think I will go to Africa and see what I can do to help build schools that work and then DO it .” In fact, as early.and middle and late baby boomers, we still have great power. We can still change the world and I am convinced that TRYING is the thing that will keep us young and passionate and fun to be around.
Superstars do not say things like “I am 68 but I look like I am 46.” Superstars say I am 68 and I hang out with anyone who has good ideas and passion and courage. Superstars are not 68 year old men who cover big bellies with Hawaiian shirts, post 20- year old pics, hit on 40 year old women and insist on doggie-paddling in lap lanes. Superstars do not whine.
On a personal note, there are some things I have done so far that worked out really well...and some not so well...and I am OK with that. I am most proud to have raised a wonderful son. He is a brain scientist. No matter how busy, he is always there for me. Like him, I love complicated and, as an unrepentant problem-solver, I am fascinated by people like Muhammad Yunus. I am a very good researcher and strategist. I love the intellectual challenge in doing those things. Although new at it, I also love public speaking. I am happiest when I can use any of these skills to help make a better life for someone somewhere-especially a child.
I love to get on a plane going just about anywhere. On the other hand, I do not like war zones, really small planes and riding on the back of a Harley on the freeway. I have no interest in restaurants that feature "early bird senior dinners". However, I love sharing and creating great food. I have a strong sense of humor and a great curiosity. I am told that I am easy to talk to. I swim or exercise hard for an hour 4-5 times a week because it feels good. I am curvy, a petite size 5-6 and very fit. I love to shop. I meditate regularly. Although I have not played for a long time, I enjoy bridge and poker and chess. I also enjoy Cranium and Charades.
