Date people from United States. Chances, choices and changes. All are good things to seek, and I continue to do so. There have been serious relationships, but never one I could "forever" for, so I've stayed single.
My career was thrust at me, I'm sure, for saying as a high school swimmer, "I'd never be swim coach. That job sucks". Well, many good years later, it's rarely sucked, and the joys I've experienced positively impacting the lives of so many young children have been countless. I do love my job, and I'm able to share the passion for swim coaching with the adult population, as well, as a masters swim coach.
Born in Indiana, and a fairly successful young swimmmer, our family traveled all over that region (never west of the Mississippi River) seeking swim meets and ever greater competition. After college, I made it west to Boulder, Colorado, where I remained for many years, and often return to.
Though Boulder, until recently, would be called home, through my swimming, whether jobs or coaching opportunities, I've been fortunate enough to travel extensively. I've worked in Boulder; Dallas; San Francisco; outside the Phoenix area in Mesa, AZ; and now, I'm working in Orinda, CA (very happy to be out of Arizona!). I've coached (and competed) in Munich, Germany; Riccione, Italy; and Perth, Australia. I did a 3-month "apprentice-ship" of sorts outside the Perth area in Mandurah, Australia. Despite all this travel, I am only minimally coherent in Spanish.
I've been out hiking the trails of the East Bay with my faithful pooch Cisco since arriving, and look forward to some swimming attempts (with my wetsuit in tow) at Muir Beach soon. Would love company to explore the area further, and offer some good conversation. More??? We'd have to see....

My daughter:
Adopting my daughter from China was the best decision I ever made. My daughter teaches me to approach life with wide-eyed wonder. On a rainy Monday morning what could be more fun than stomping in puddles with shiny new rain boots and counting worms on the way to the school bus stop? My daughter is a happy child, and she often makes me smile. I am grateful for her being. We're lucky to live in the Bay Area, surrounded by supportive family and friends. On week-ends we like to stroll through the farmer's market, explore local parks, savor ice cream at the neighborhood ice cream shop, and picnic at the zoo.
Education and work:
My twenties were focused on college, graduate school and a clerkship for a federal judge. At Stanford, I majored in economics with honors in humanities. I graduated from law school at University of California Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall). Following law school, I had an amazing experience clerking for a federal judge in Miami, Florida. My thirties were focused on full time law firm associate life, mostly in large San Francisco based law firms. It was interesting to work on a variety of cases and explore different areas of law practice. My forties have been focused on adopting a child and balancing my professional interests and goals with family life.
Leisure time and interests:
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, sharing thoughts about our lives, families, careers, social issues, and current events. I love being outdoors --- hiking on Bay Area trails, walking on Stinson Beach, and swimming wherever it's warm. I love classical music and enjoy going to concerts. I have been fortunate to have had opportunities to travel to Europe, Asia and Latin America. My parents are Austrian, and I have really enjoyed visiting our relatives in Austria--- going to cultural events in Vienna, swimming in lakes near Salzburg and hiking in the Tyrolean Alps. I have traveled to China twice, and I would like to learn more about Chinese culture. Even though my current day-to-day life does not allow for international travel adventures, those experiences shaped me and broadened my horizons. I hope to have future opportunities for travel and interesting adventures.

Date someone special from United States. I grew up in the Chicago area in what was a large, predominantly Italian, family. They're an amazingly loud group of loving people but I'm one of the quieter ones. I live a simple life that brings me much pleasure. I love that I can head out the door almost everyday and hike with a neighborhood friend or two, and that I work locally, so there is no commute. I hang my laundry outdoors when it's nice, and I actually like to wash my dishes by hand. I like the winter days so I can be inside and take a break from gardening and working in the yard. I'm actually beginning to think I may be too old for all of that work! Luckily we live in the midst of a place where we can have a never ending list of things to do and places to go and I love that part of the Bay Area. You can't tell from this extremely dull paragraph, but I actually have a sense of humor, too... really.
So here's the thing that's missing in my oh, so, glorious life, that I briefly described... and that would be someone special. Bottom line? I want someone with integrity. And being that integrity seems like a huge umbrella of goodness, I think I'll just stick with that. I do have to tell you that kindness and laughter go a long way with me. Yep. I've realized over the years that if people can be just plain old good to one another, that wonderful things can happen.
I'm just finishing up my first experience with Match and I'll be leaving the site at the end July. No match, yet, but I think I'll give it another try, another time.
