Date people from Davis, United States. "Love is friendship caught on fire." I once knew a woman named Barbara who was intent on finding Mr. Right. Every year Barbara would announce that she was in love again. She and her new beau had great chemistry! After a time, Barbara or her beau would lose interest and move on. Eventually Barbara met a guy in a painting class who shared many of her interests. There was no chemistry; he was just a good friend. They began to take classes and travel together without romantic expectations. In time, they grew a relationship that was irreplaceable and developed strong feelings for one another. Yes, they got married. A statistician told me that, on average, people meeting on the Internet date for about seven months. I don’t want to change dance partners every seven months. Initial chemistry is great, but a friendship that catches fire is better if you’re looking for a long-term relationship. I’ve had an interesting life. One of my first jobs was as a Senate attache in Sacramento where I met politicos like Willie Brown, Leo Ryan, and George Moscone. I also did a stint with Teen Fair, Inc., as a stage announcer and helped manage the Miss Teen USA pageant. I've appeared as an instructor on dozens of educational videos and have owned and managed several businesses. One of my favorite jobs was working as a mediator for an alternative dispute resolution group. My interests include the fine arts, such as museums, art galleries, ballet, and opera, in addition to sports and outdoor activities like hiking. I also enjoy day and weekend trips and visiting other states and countries. I prefer intelligent, independent women who are basically happy with their lives, emotionally available, and patient enough to let friendship catch on fire.

Meet a soulmate from California, United States. For fun
For the past 10-15 years, my family has devoted most of its recreational time to helping build the soccer community in Davis, both youth and adult.
My profession
I’m a professor at UC Davis specializing in public and environmental policy. I love teaching my students to think critically and to influence my research colleagues all over the world
Spirituality and religion.
I’m an Episcopalian. It appeals to me because it is among the least authoritarian and most open to multiple sources of divine guidance than other Christian churches. In addition Episcopalians are among the leaders of civil right for women and gays
Ethnicity.
My father was French and my mother British. They crossed the Atlantic because they saw the U.S as the “land of opportunity.”
Favorite places.
Paris, Mont San Michel, the English countryside, the Scottish Highlands, the Alps and Sierra Nevada, the California and Oregon s, Northern Italy, San Francisco.. Least favorite places: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, anywhere in Texas except Austin.
Music and the arts
My tastes in music are fairly broad, going from Beethoven to Chopin, through Bob Dylan, to Willie Nelson. Confined to purgatory are rappers and punk rockers who violate basics precepts of human dignity. In the arts, I’m a big fan of the Impressionists, an even bigger fan of Rodin, and perfectly willing to send most of modern art (with the exception of Picasso ) to join the rappers in purgatory.
Foods
I enjoy most cuisines, especially French, Italian, Spanish, Thai, Chinese, and Caribbean. I would like to cook together with my partner in a symphony of taste and smell. My menu is rather limited. but I challenge anyone to match my boeuf bourguignon.
Most recent book read
Thomas, The Shack. Probably the most important book I’ve ever read.
ABOUT MY LIFE AND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR IN A PARTNER
For many of us, these are the Golden Years. The children have left the nest. Retirement gives us the time to do all sorts of interesting things: . Take trips that have been on our agenda for years. Take painting or design courses. Improve the golf swing. Redesign the house interior or garden. Take the time and privacy to be intimate.
Most of these activities are undertaken by individuals or by small family groups. There is little attempt to involve large groups of people in their design and execution. The motivation for most of these projects is a mixture of fun, self-improvement, and enlightenment. I would urge my partner— as well as other retirees--to consider engaging themselves in a variety of activities, some of them purely self-improvement, some to benefit small groups, others to benefit fairly large segments of the community.
For the past 20-30 years, my life has been dominated by soccer and by my profession. Knee injuries have made it impossible to play or to ref, . My declining participation in my profession is going at about the right speed. The activity most likely to increase in importance is my participation in Cursillo, a retreat organization combining Catholic, Protestant, and Evangelical principles. It brings passion to my life.
What sort of relationship am I looking for with my partner? First of all, the relationship must be g rounded in the fundamental values of respect, trust, dignity, equality, and compassion. Second, we should start with some common interests, and then encourage these to grow over time. But partners also need to develop “their own space,” consisting of relationships and activities quite apart from their spouse. Otherwise, the relationship is likely to become stifling rather than nourishing. Third, in my case at least, a long-term relationship must have a strong component of affection, intimacy, and tactile support. These are constant reminders that “we’re special.” Finally, all this must be liberally doused with humor
In any human relationship the essentials are humor, respect, equality, empathy, and trustwo
Date single man from United States. I am looking for “my best friend” who is willing to explore internally and externally, this wonderful paradise we live in. I am considered very compassionate, intelligent and concerned with the struggles that we all go through called life. I am “keniseticaly (sp?) oriented to life, and like to take the time to check into my body for reactions, before I respond to input. I have found that this can be unnerving to some who is high strung and stressed out by life.
Meet a soulmate from United States. Hello you. If you’re reading this you are curious about me. Thanks. We might be compatible and after some mutual exploration, get lucky and make a new friend or, better yet, find a life partner.
Some of the things that would brighten our chances would be that you are a positive, mostly content person who cares about other people, animals, and the planet in general.
Your priorities are friends, family, health, fitness, and laughter and travel. The age on your drivers license matters, but not as much as the your mental and physical age. I am 36 and a half on the inside. I’m closer to 40 in athletics, and about 53 otherwise.
Some deal breakers would be smoking, jail time, a deep love of the tea party, or no interest in travel.
I don’t watch TV or read newspapers. I don’t see that it adds to my life to load up on trivia, world horrors, or scandals. I scan the computer each day to stay alert about potential giant asteroid impacts, or impending nuclear war so I will know to bring in the geraniums and keep my helmet handy.
I am allergic to religion in general. I see plenty of spiritual wonder in the sciences, especialy astronomy and biology.
Bicycling is my number one workout and general pleasure. At one time or another I have been big into sailing, flying, skiing, volleyball, tennis, snokeling and SCUBA. I still love them all.
About lifestyle. I’m retired and able to do just about anything I want to. What I do is travel, spend lots of time with my family and friends, and travel.
I want someone who is good at intimacy, mental and physical, and is fascinated by the cosmos, nature, and the big questions.
So there you have it. If you’re interested, please notify me immediately.
Date someone special from United States. I am very fit, very pleasant to look at, very intelligent and very well educated. I am sensitive, caring and I have a very good sense of humor. I am a good listener, be it good news or bad news, and I do like to share. I was born in Europe and in the sixties I came here to attend college. Now, I do not think that I could live anywhere else. I do, however, love to travel to close and far away places. Suggest Paris and I’ll be there!! Of course, more exotic travel destinations are also welcome. Yes, I am a romantic who at times loves to dream, is not afraid to show affection, and feels very comfortable holding hands. Last but not least, I truly believe that I am emotionally available. I like being out in nature, the ocean or the mountains, especially on a bright sunny day. I hike, I walk, I ski, and I try to stay fit. I also enjoy the theater, visiting art museums (I love the Impressionists), good music (classical, opera, rock), a good movie, good food (including all ethnic), and a quiet evening with the right person, a good book, and a fire. As to any other activity, suggest it and I’ll try it! No, I will not bungee jump!!About my match? Of course, that’s you! You are intelligent, compassionate, sensitive and happy. You are educated, affectionate, sensual and romantic. You are very aware of your emotional needs, your personal self, and you do have the ability to share. You are playful, you have a great sense of humor, you love to laugh, and you have a twinkle in your eyes. Yes, you are a little mischievous! You are fit and take pride in both your body and your mind. No, you are not perfect and you are not trying to be. Neither am I! We are two very independent individuals with very unique personalities who have a desire to be together and share our lives together. We are friends, we are partners, we are companions, we are confidants, we are lovers, we like each other, we look out for each other and most importantly, eventually, we know that we can make a life together.
Note: The most recent photos, the fifth and sixth, were taken this May in Turkey. The photos in short sleeve blue T-shirt (short hair) were taken in April 2010 in Spain and Portugal. The primary photo was taken in November 2009 while traveling and hiking in Patagonia. Patagonia is always windy, hence, one wears a hat or one has a bad hair day!
Meet someone special from Davis, United States. My professional life has been and continues to be a source of challenge and satisfaction. There is also an abundant amount of leisure time that I fill with a wide variety of activities. Outdoor interests include hiking, skiing, tennis, and snorkeling. Indoors, I am active in ballroom dancing and have taught myself to be a decent cook, enjoy many of the films that play at The Crest or Tower theaters, live performances in Sacramento or the Bay Area, museums like SFMOMA or Sunday afternoon at the Crocker. Talking about our life adventures, holding hands, watching a beautiful sunset, seeing a mountain peak or a deer in a valley, making love in the afternoon, a glass of wine, and travel are all on my list of favorite pursuits. Divorce has taught me alot about myself and what makes a successful relationship. I am independent, dependable, honest, fun loving, considerate, energetic, passionate, and compassionate, and enjoy people with similar traits. What I need to enrich my life even more is a partner to share with me the wonderful things this life has to offer. If you have some of the same interests that I have, please be in touch. I would like to hear from you.
Date a soulmate from Davis, United States. I would love to meet a lady who has an appreciation for what I bring to a relationship. I am fully prepared tp have a relationship with a lady who has depth of character. She does not need a college or graduate degree. I won't hold those things against her, but I feel that too many people place too much of a value on educational components. Street smarts can be as effrective as any PhD.
Chemistry is important. When we begin to discover each other, I want to engage her slowly and not just be a hit and run artist. My age might be a turn-off for some 50 year olds, but once they meet me, they will realize that I have much to offer and certainly one of the most important things is a young attitude and a physically fit body. I long for a lady who wants to be near me and be excited in any adventure we take together. She does not need to have money. She must have a strong ability to demonstrate affection.
Meet someone special from Davis, United States. Random, funny, curious, and outgoing is what most of my close friends and family would say about me.
Adventure is like a breath of fresh air to me, I'm addicted to it, and love the company of others I share it with. I love meeting easy going people who're just looking for someone to hang out with and have a good time. Whether it be playing cards, shooting pool, dancing, hiking, or kayaking you name it, I'll try it! I want to have as many experiences as I can with whoever's willing to join me. In my eyes, there's nothing more meaningful about a scenery if you're not sharing it with someone. Meeting you, sharing each other's life lessions, and creating bonds is my goal. I am a little shy, however, but I still know how to take initiative and seize an opportunity. My passion is to make people smile, travel, math, drawing, and watching the sunset.
What am I looking for in a man? Someone who follows through, shows compassion, has optimistic perspectives, knows how to get down 'n' dirty, honest, funny, slightly competitive, a sucker for vanilla ice cream, and capable of giving love another shot after a period of time.
If you're down, I WILL meet you someday, and we WILL have a blast! :)
