I grew up in a large family (I am 5th-born of 6 kids) with parents who ran a small business, offering plumbing, heating, wiring, appliances and repair, even paint and hardware. Of course I was involved with the business as a teenager and young man. I chose to study electrical engineering to some degree as a result of this experience, something that my father would have done well at had he had the chance. (He was a child of the Great Depression.)
I did well at MIT, stayed from Bachelors through Doctor of Science degrees, was a National Science Foundation graduate fellow, then worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory for 13 years, where I was second-in-charge of a group of about 30 staff. Then in 1991 I joined a start-up in Sunnyvale as the head of the group charged with making commercial radio-frequency products using the company's unique capabilities in thin-film high-temperature superconductors. This was successful in two application areas, and I chose to follow one of those applications (NMR) to another company that is one of the major NMR system manufacturers. I have since moved this work to Agilent Technologies, the Hewlett Packard instrument division spun our in 1999.
It has been fun, and an adventure.

I laugh easily and occasionally cry at movies, I would rather dress up than down, like skirts more than trousers, love fashion and museums. I am interested in almost everything, do bring on what you like and I will give it a go. I am an adventurous diner as long as it isn't slimy or a baby [exception shrimp and vegetables].
