.I am a university professor, recently returned from seven years' teaching in China. While I was working abroad, my US residence has been an Airstream trailer, parked in my son's yard. His home is in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. This website appeared in my inbox not long ago, and I thought I would see if I could make any connections with it.
I like to read, mostly nonfiction, and not just in my own field. You could say I am artistic, but I am also interested in recent developments in science. I have traveled fairly widely, mostly in Europe. I go to the gym about 5-6 days each week. I am in good health, and come from a family with genes for longevity. My living habits are simple. I was raised in a Christian family; my father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all clergymen. This has had an influence on my values, although I am not a practicing Christian myself. All the same, I try to be truthful and treat people with respect and fairness. I am an intellectual, not a materialist, although my finances are in good order.

I have noticed that part of the puzzle of this process is finding someone whose wants are compatible. I am interested in cultural activities, but I do not get much from socializing for its own sake. And I am happiest when I feel I am accomplishing something, either for myself, for someone else, or for the general welfare. Just lying around makes me itch. I have never had an all-over suntan in my life. Not having to report for work is for me a liberation to do all the things I have always wanted to do. I am scheduled to give a research paper next May at a conference in northern Norway. Recently I painted my granddaughter's car. Not long ago I read an intellectual history of the 20th century. Now I am reading "The German Genius," a cultural history of Germany. I will learn about you if you tell me how you like to spend your free time.

Meet a soulmate from Sacramento, United States. This is difficult because we often see ourselves differently than others. I believe that like usually attracts like, so the qualities that I consider important in myself would likely be found in the other person. The ability to communicate easily and honestly about subjects and issues if they arise is critical. A relationship needs to be easy and although all couples have a few difficult times, in general, we both move forward as a team remaining both independent, but also as a couple that respects and loves that person for whom they are now. I would like to have an active relationship, both in body and mind...to take time to also relax together and enjoy the things we often take for granted.
Trust and respect for the other person, and a willingness to share and compromise at times for the other person are important.
I value a good sense of humor, and being able to laugh at the world and even at ourselves...
I am trying to learn how to better meditate each day to increase relaxation and reduce stress...this is going to be a long process for me, though.
