Here’s what’s important to me. The details of life are manageable if two people have respect for one another. Meeting a “real lady” is something I would cherish. She would be comfortable at Buckingham Palace and really enjoy the fact that she had tea with the Queen of England and not pretend it didn’t mean anything or it would be bourgeois to get excited about the opportunity.
She is comfortable with people of any class; she is not intimidated by those more fortunate than she may be and at the same time not above helping those less fortunate enjoy an equal level of comfort when they are in her company.
We reveal a lot about who we are when we interact with people who are serving us, like a busy waiter working two stations that hasn’t fulfilled our anticipated quality of service, or the airline employee informing us that our flight will be delayed, the hotel maid in Taranto, Italy that is unable to communicate in English, or the gardener that accidently sprayed water onto just cleaned windows --- it is one thing to feign respect and quite another to truly respect other people. Respect for others comes from within and it is mutual respect that makes all other qualities mere details when a man and a woman enter into a relationship.
In my opinion, mutual respect is the very foundation of a relationship and it can’t be manufactured based on a person’s mood; it must come from the heart. When two people respect one another a relationship will have experiences that are good, better and best. But, when respect is arbitrary a relationship can quickly deteriorate into times that are good, bad, and worse. Without mutual respect, every day that passes is one day closer to no relationship at all.
As I said, “everything else is a detail.”
Passion in a relationship is also very important – -actually, mandatory if a relationship is to last.
