That's the way I am most of the time, but then there were those years in HS and college when I worked as a camp counselor during the summers, and I would sing and dance and play practical jokes with the best of them. I still do sometimes. Humor provides gusto in my life, and is always there are some level (beware). Reading is my favorite past time. Most of what I read is not academic. I love modern fiction and have a wide range of interest in that regard. I particularly like stories that deal with the interaction of culture, writers like William Boyd or Chang-Rae Lee, though, I like Raymond Chandler and James Elleroy as well. My other passion is the natural world. I am particularly interested in birds, but all aspects of nature are interesting to me. I'm not a tree-hugger, or sentimentalist about nature, but I am a conservationist though not an extremist. I like to travel. I spent a year teaching in West Africa, and have traveled on all the continents except Antarctica. I've still a lot to do. I've visited Japan during cherry blossum time. I am particularly interested in exploring Asia further and am attempting to learn some Japanese. Gardening has always been part of my life. I've always had a small plot with the basics: tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, lemons, etc. I have some skill with cooking and certainly enjoy it. Asianesque is my preference though occasionally I try other styles. I like foreign films, though some of the independent films in the US have been excellent. I'm not usually keen on big budget Hollywood numbers. I'm not a big sports person myself. I was a mediocre tennis player many years ago and more recently, an even more mediocre racket ball player.Did you ever meet someone where it seemed that you could talk forever? One thing leads to another and to another, and the time disappears. That's what I would like to find.
