I'm starting my third year of a Ph. D. program in research psychology (cognitive/cognitive neuroscience) at UCLA, and although I sometimes wonder if it's worth it, I'm generally really excited to be in academia, especially after it took me a bit of time to figure it out and get to this point... (In general, I can sometimes take a while to actually figure out which direction I want to go in, hence the username...but once I do figure it out, I'll go all out for things...)
I still feel like I don't really get L.A., even though I guess I've been here for a little while now. But it does have some charms...like food trucks; random, intellectually stimulating lectures around the city; oh, and the weather, of course. (Well actually, I still think the weather here is strange, but I mostly can't actually complain about it.) I'm originally from St. Louis, and I lived on the East Coast for 8 years (Philadelphia area for 6 years, and then Connecticut for 2 years) until I moved out here for grad school in '09. I still think I want to move back to the Midwest or East Coast after I finish grad school in ~3 years, but we'll see where the gods of academia send me next...
In terms of personality, I'd say I'm kind of a cross between Chuck Bartowski and Adrian Monk...among others... (I'm definitely not a neat freak like Monk, though.)
While I can be serious at times, I do have a sillier side, too... And finally, last but not least, while I can sometimes be a bit awkward, I usually try to be a nice person, and I'm almost incapable of lying...
I'm looking for someone who can be nurturing, but who's also intelligent, quirky, and who really values learning and knowledge for its own sake. Someone who's just a little off-center (because being too "normal" can be boring)... And someone who can teach me new things--about my intellectual interests, but also about fun things that LA (and life?) has to offer.

Keeping balance is very important to me (was tempted to write here work hard play hard but someone on match beat me to that quote!) so when I find myself spending too much time at the office, I make a few mouse clicks and, bam!', spontaneous trip gets booked. I love to travel the world and have been to around 45 countries: Cape Town, Paris, Buenos Aires, and Singapore all make my favorites list :)
Whatever I'm doing, I am passionate for it and I dont really know how to half- things. I've had some success at building startup companies, but I also appreciate level-headed people and look less favorably on those who "act" successful and dont know whats important in life.
