I got divorced in 2002 and stuck around for a few years until my kids went off to college, then I switched coasts to further my career. The decision turned out to be one of the best I ever made.
My two kids are still -- and always will be -- everything to me. My son lives in Los Angeles and works in the gaming business. My daughter is a world traveler and will soon move to London for her graduate degree.
Money means little to me other than a means to buy what I need. I don't care about big cars, big houses, big boats. I admit to being a workaholic, but I sometimes rebel against that and take an opposite course. When I was married, my wife and I decided to quit our jobs, pull our kids out of school, and go around the world. We crossed the U.S. by car and then flew across the Pacific via Hawaii and Fiji, took a few months to live and explore Australia and New Zealand, and then traveled slowly to Bali, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Egypt, and all across Europe. We home-schooled the kids that year, and they learned more than they would have ever picked up in a year of suburban American education. That was over 10 years ago, and it changed all of us forever, and for the better.

I have both a European and American upbringing. I open doors and pull out chairs. I am old school and rock and roll. I am still a work in progress.
I have a nice circle of friends. Some date back to high school and some are much more recent. It's the relationship that matters.
My sense of humor is very dry and I can be a perfectionist . I work for myself so I have some flexibility in my schedule. If I make a promise you can count on it. Most of my parent's immediate families perished in the holocaust. I keep up with world politics and events, particularly the Middle-East. I am very interested in how things work and as a corollary to that, I know how to fix them when broken. I try not to be wasteful. I have a dog. I love sword and sorcery, fantasy as well as science fiction. Think Tolkien's trilogy. I am not afraid to experiment. My inner person is naturally warm. Although I enjoy getting out, I am a homebody at heart. I like the connection that is part of being a couple.
Although I exercise regulary and eat properly, I am not obsessed. The hamburgers and steaks mentioned in my favorites have become an infrequent indulgence. I know I am better off in the long run, but it's a steep price to pay.
Communication, common values, mutual respect and the ability to compromise are essential to a successful relationship. Communication means that we listen to what the other says without interrupting and consider it before responding. It sounds pretty basic but it is not always practiced. When the above fail and a battle is picked, and at some point it will be, it should be picked carefully and fought fairly. Some things, once said cannot be taken back. By bedtime all should be resolved as the bedroom is no place for anger.
As for you, here is my wish list. You are both an intellect and an emotional being. You are self sufficient. You take good care of yourself. You appreciate a moment of silence as well as good conversation. You are honest and loyal. You are passionate, affectionate and compassionate....but with an edge, because we both need some adult fun now and again.

I recently retired having worked in Aerospace as a Business Manager for 28 years. I was also an asst. to the exec. VP at the Queen Mary and was a lead in moving the Spruce Goose from its hanger to the Queen Mary. I lived and worked in the Caribbean, Tunisia, Kauai and Manzanillo, Mexico teaching sailing for Club Mediterranee. I have also worked in Paris and Rotterdam.
