Before launching into “who I am,” I would like to address you “ageists” out there who might have a stereotypical perception of what a 66-year-old man is supposed to be or not be. Heck, even I'm not sure what a 66-year-old man is supposed to be like. To provide some assurance to you ladies out there, I can tell you that I don’t use oxygen, don’t need a wheelchair, don’t suffer from any forms of dementia, don’t need cataract surgery, am not on disability, am not depressed or feel life is on a downward slope, am not looking for just a “platonic” relationship, not unemployed and don’t suffer from insomnia.
On the other hand, I am very mentally sharp (one needs to be when dealing with “twenty-somethings” all the time who are constantly trying to test their professors), take great joy in my life every day, love to take long walks with my faithful companion (Josh, my dog), am able to work hard at my job (in addition to the mental dexterity needed, I probably pace several miles each day while giving my lectures) and have been told by many friends and strangers alike, that I look about 10 years younger than my biological age (of course, you will be the final judge of that should we have the opportunity to meet some day).
Is that settled, then? Have I overcome your misguided fears or misgivings of “older” men? Ok, then it’s time for a little more information about who I am with no embellishments, BS, or wishful thinking on my part.
A little bit about me. I'm told I'm a Brad Pitt lookalike (Ok, so that's a real stretch), I am fit and my body is toned (not even in my own imagination), I am quite wealthy (not financially, but in terms of having a great relationship with my four grown children of whom I am very proud and a few wonderful friends), politically to the right of Attila the Hun (actually I'm slightly left of center - known as a bit of a liberal - but so many of you ladies out there seem to be "conservative," so I thought I would expand my opportunities with a marginal amount of exaggeration) and finally, former ambassador to the Court of St. James (yeah, well, I actually once attended a service at a church called St. James in London). I've literally traveled all over the world as part of my former job, I'm well-educated, quite intelligent (without the driving urge to prove it), have a pretty good, albeit perhaps slightly dry, sense of humor and an enormous capacity to love the right woman. Never have been and never will be a "player." I'm a one woman man.
Who am I looking for? I am looking for that special woman who can enter my life and make it even better than it already is - and for whom I can perform the same magic. I want a woman who is intelligent and not afraid to display it. I would love to find a woman who also has a good sense of humor and cannot only laugh at my attempts at humor, but can also laugh at herself. I am looking for that one woman who views a relationship as a reward rather than a burden. I'm not looking for perfection. But I do believe that people have the ability to get closer to it with some real effort. The right woman would be very feminine and still believe that chivalry is alive and well and should be expected in her man, would be affectionate and want to hold hands at any given moment, has a bit of a sense of adventure and curiosity and is looking for a mutual commitment.
