Since then I have found a great career to devote myself to but haven't had many chances to meet anyone.

Date someone special from Phoenix, United States. When I originally set up this profile, I started by listing where I am from, what I am looking for, what I like/dislike, etc, etc. Then I realized that was really boring.
Instead, a story:
Last week, I was at a management conference for work. During this conference, we had interactions with colleagues/other managers from around the country. I ended up sitting by a guy who's son plays little league baseball, and he was disappointed he was going to miss some of his games. We ended up chatting about baseball in general, how being a Cubs fan is generally miserable, and the fact that youth league baseball provides other benefits other than just learning to play a sport. I grew up in a very rural area in which the 8th grade had 25 kids, but this school fed into a large high school district where the freshman class was 500 . Playing little league introduced me to kids from other schools prior to high school, which was crucial for me to acclimate to this large high school environment. (In fact, two of my best friends to this day I met playing little league).
Aaaaaaaany way, baseball must have been on my mind because the next day was the final day of the conference and several executives would be in attendance. I had a dream early that morning that I was playing baseball. I was on second, and the hitter bunted and I attempted to run to third. I say "attempted", because apparently it was a VERY vivid dream. I launched myself out of bed head first, crashed into the ironing board I had set up next to the bed and ended up in a heap on the floor. The hotel room was pitch black, so it took me a few seconds to realize where I was and what just happened. After turning on the light I touched my forehead and realized I was bleeding. Huge gash on my forehead. Management conference in 2 hours. Pictures. Executives. Oh, and I am standing up in my buddy's wedding in two weeks. Effing great.
Ironically, the topic of that day's meeting was about the power of stories, and how we can use them to set the tone for a meeting, or
to reach common ground during negotiations, or just to lighten the mood in a business setting. Well, I guess I had a story all ready to go. With each executive I talked to, I could see their eyes wander up to my head and I could just tell they were like "WTF is with this guy?" After telling the story, they all thought it was hilarious and they wanted to use it (without using my name) for future meetings. No problem, I said. (Added bonus, these guys are definitely going to remember me, which is never bad for your career with a huge company.)
If there is a moral to this story, I guess it is you HAVE to be able to laugh at yourself. If you are able to do that, and have a sense of humor in general, then everything else is in life is a cakewalk.
