Date someone special from United States. My life began on the west boundary of the Black Swamp, in the midst of a small Amish town. In a place where the fields whisper just as quietly as the people who live there. A traveler be lucky to find an outhouse somewhere along the road. No plumping, No electricity, no maps or vending machine. An outhouse, just a lonely broken down wooden outhouse.
Driving through these fields can lead to a state of vertigo, because each mile seems identical to the next. The flat stark land of Hicksville, Ohio protrudes the illusion of going on for an eternity.
I was lucky enough to catch just a glimpse of it before it was torn down because there was a modern hospital build elsewhere in Defiance county.
Most of my life thus far has been spent in Northern Michigan. The reason I tell people northern Michigan and not just Michigan is that fact that I don’t want to be affiliated with people from Detroit. It’s not a glamorous thing. At this point that city looks like a city built over a landfill or a landfill built over a city. Take your pick. Detriot was the has been state, its here the assembly line began with the automotive industry. In time those jobs would be shipped out of the country for cheap labor leaving the city to be consumed by nature. Imagine if you will walking down the streets, after seeing twelve buildings decayed and abandoned there is a nice Gerneral Motors building at the end of the street. Detriot looks much like a third world country.
Most of my childhood was spent small city known as Cadillac. Named after Antoine De La Monthe Cadillac, Not the General Motors car. There was no night life, the only thing open after 1am was Wal-Mart. There were two lakes, which could hardly be enjoyed because of the long harsh winters. Not even the cockroaches wanted to live there. I only saw one in all the years I lived there.
No real variety in culture, race or religion. It was all white and mostly conservative Christians.
The greatest feat someone could accomplish living there would be to run around the seven diameter lake known as Lake Cadillac.
I ended up in the south to start my life over, and it certain has been an interesting journey.
