I love the regional differences that still exist in this country, and rue our increasingly homogenized culture in the United States. I am a casual student of Southern culture, particularly Southern music, but I love downeast Maine, the eastern shore, the Spanish, Mexican and Indian southwest, you name it.
I also enjoy downhill skiing, and try to go at least once a year. I respect spontaneity, and I need to improve my Cajun two-step. I go through cycles in my reading: histories, biographies, novels, short stories. I read the fourth column of the Wall Street Journal every day,
