I don't know how many ways to say it but I'm not the stereotypical guy you'd meet. Take what you will from the pictures but no book's cover is ever as interesting as the pages beneath. I'll try to divulge a few personality traits that might help:
I'm neither purely cynical nor purely optimistic (who really is?). When people say the glass is either half full or half empty I do get the point. I'm simply more pragmatic and more of a nerd about these things. The glass is really both depending on what you need at the time. You need taxi fare and only have half of it, well, that will get you half way--makes for a "silver lining" of sorts. Don't have it for an airplane flight? They won't let you on the plane and drop you off half way with a parachute. Make sense?
People are always surprised I never got married. I always tell them I didn't get married because I didn't feel like getting divorced. Is that being too pragmatic? Oh, but people tell me lately that humans aren't really meant to be monogamists. And those are usually the people who got divorced...
I was recently told I was a serial dater by a lady I had just asked out for a date. Which meant that she probably wasn't going to go out on a date with me. Later on she said she would probably have to start serial dating herself in order not to be single. What's the point of mentioning this? I really don't know...see if you can guess.
If the majority of people have 100 hundred deal breakers or red flags for potential suitors, I must only have 5. It's just that those five can be the most difficult to have. Here they are:
1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (No, I'm not a Christian.)
2. Live and let live. (Better than Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die." I work in the medical field, ok? I'd vote libertarian, if they had anyone to vote for.)
3. If you are going to hold someone else to a standard be sure you can hold yourself to it first. More simply, don't be a hypocrite.
4. Being honest sucks. Being honest with yourself is even harder. (To thine own self, be true...as an alternate.)
5. Being nice sucks too. I'm both honest and nice...most people can't wait to take advantage of that. Just stamp sucker on your forehead. And, as we've all heard, nice guys do finish last. Which will truly encapsulate my personality if you're willing to continue reading further.
It's just that I'm not going to write it all out for anyone that isn't too, too interested--or happens to be illiterate. Let me know if you are...interested, I mean, not illiterate.
