I'm a liberal, and proud of it. In some ways, I consider myself very liberal, but I feel free to diverge from standard liberal dogma in some cases. (Whatever happened to nuance in political discourse?) The issues that matter most to me tend to be those that affect animals and the environment, and children (e.g. education). I believe strongly in personal freedom. And if you voted for Bush in aught-four...move along.
I prefer to be around people of a reasonable amount of intelligence. I'm picky as to the people I let into my life; the rest I prefer to keep at a distance. I'd rather truly care about a small group of people in my life than have many acquaintances I hardly know. I seek true connection.
It would be difficult for me to be any less interested in sports...but I'm willing to try. On the other hand, games can be fun. (Air hockey!)
I wasn't indoctrinated by my parents with a religion, so I grew up atheist. I've never been drawn to the usual religions, and I have some major problems with them (and many of their followers). Some years back, though, I started exploring paganism. I still don't know what I'm doing, or what it's possible for me to believe, but I'm trying to find a spiritual path. For right now, I just know that I have a pagan value system, and am drawn to pagan things and pagan people. (Do I hear the sound of drums around a bonfire?)
I love animals. I'm goofy enough that I'll stop to talk to a squirrel in a tree. (In college, I joked that I should be called Dances with Squirrels.) I'm very much a cat person; I'm the kind of person who leaves empty boxes strewn across his living room floor 'cause he knows that his kids like to jump into them and play hide and seek. I do get along okay with dogs, too, though. (Well, larger dogs--my family has always had them.) I love the prairie dogs around here. For three years, I volunteered with a group that relocated prairie dogs from sites where they faced harm.
I love music. I feel most spiritual when I'm listening to some of my favorite types of music. I can't play any instruments, but someday I simply must take lessons and learn to play the fiddle I bought several years ago on a whim.
I love to laugh and make others laugh, but I like humor based more on wit and wordplay than pratfalls. (Not that that wit has to be very deep. I personally think puns are an unjustly disregarded form of humor. Granted, not everyone who has heard my puns would agree on the "unjustly" part....) On the other hand, sometimes sheer silliness is the funniest and funnest thing around. And I have a strong affinity for black humor and bawdy sexual innuendo, so be warned. (It's nice to have friends who aren't very easily offended.)
I love long, exploring hikes into nature, or simply walking around in the city on a cool, windy night, my long coat billowing around me.
