I like someone who is up for anything and does not let preconceived notions about people or places get in the way of having fun. I am equally at home at a dive bar or in a world class resort.
I love to cook and eat, and drink good wine, and want to be with someone who enjoys and appreciates the same things.
I've spent way too much time at black tie events over the past 25 years (I used to go to up to 16 a year), and wearing a suit and tie every day, to the point where dressing up feels like work. That said, I can dress up when I need to (I actually own a beautiful tux). On the other hand, my preferred attire is blue jeans and flip flops.
Don't get me wrong, I like nice things and appreciate them, but I am not flashy by nature. You won't see me pull up in a new sports car just to prove I can.
I was married for almost twenty years and have 2 sons in college. I like being in a committed relationship, but am not inclined towards jumping into things.
I am suspicious of anyone who says they are doing this looking for a "soul mate" or anything equivalent. We are all looking for that, ultimately, but would you go into a bar and say to a guy who offers to buy you a drink--"Hey, thanks, but I'm really looking for my soul mate?" I mean, really, we're all here to meet people who have that potential, but to condition responses based on that criteria seems a little odd.
I swim several times a week--my weekly goal is five miles (I don't often make it with my schedule). I also take a long (5-8 mile) hike once a week when the weather permits. I probably look younger than my age, in spite of not having any tatoos or piercings.
The physical side of a relationship is very important to me. (And I don't just mean cuddling, although that is certainly part of it). If you don't have that, then you may as well hang out with your buddies and drink beer. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but is that really the point of this exercise?
After work, when I go home (when I'm not having dinner with my kids or meeting friends) I will crack open a bottle of wine (which is why I have to go beyond "social drinker" on my profile) and watch Stewart, Colbert, the cooking channel or just listen to music while doing chores or cooking. Cooking is my catharsis, and I'm pretty darn good at it. I'll prove it given the chance.
I don't watch much TV, with the above exceptions. I do enjoy college football (Notre Dame fan and alum) and to a lesser extent the NFL. I enjoy TCM now and then, but the truth is that I'm not really good at sitting still that long.
One final note, if you want or think you want kids, I can't help you. Been there, done that, had the operation.

I moved to Scottsdale to be near my family. I am originally from Iowa (near Omaha) and I grew up with midwest work ethics and manners.

Wow 200 characters..........Well let's see......In my mind.....Simple to truly enjoy each others company!!! .....There are several idea's/thoughts that come to mind....But the one that keeps coming back is above "enjoy each others company"....No drama....Simple....Life its just too short.....I have been blessed with 2 great kids & try to spend as much time as I can with them...I am from Chicago & they are both back in Illinois.....So I do get back to the Mid-West as much as I can.....I am really looking for someone to spend my new/second life with....I joke with my kids....I love to hang with them but Dad needs some grownup time too....End of the day I am a very happy easy going love to cook, laugh, and take care of friends & family kid of guy....Looking for that special gal to spend time with someone that I can spoil yet can take care of me too.....I will say am new to Match.....&.....AZ too....(about 4 years now)....I have a good old fashion large Irish Family with 4 sisters & 1 brother.....(all back in Chicago as well).....They all have been telling me that this is the place to be......Sooo I am really looking forward to seeing if "Match" does in fact Match:):)
