Date a man from Alabama, United States. I'm a laid back, athletic, very liberal thinker who's in search of someone who's independent and can enjoy the moment. Would prefer someone who's been there, done that and finds enjoyment in simple things: watching great movies, listening to music, enjoying the outdoors, reading a book, playing tennis, maybe dancing out on occasion, hiking, walking, or running. On rare occasion enjoy American Idol since music is such a large part of my life with my father having written Barry White's "You're the First, My Last, My Everything" and my maternal grandmother writing one of Patsy Cline's old records. Also musical myself, on the dormant side lately. I'm also a very progressive political junkie who actually enjoys watching such TV talk shows as "Hardball" and "Rachel Maddow." I'd love to see the day when everyone in the US has health coverage and education at a very low cost, as I remind people on Twitter and Facebook. I graduated from UCLA with a degree in American Studies. I'm politically very pro Michael Moore/anti-stupid white men liberal and spiritually anti-organized religion and pro-Golden Rule. I don't go out on dates for the sake of going out, which is why I haven't been dating much. At this point, like that old cliche, I'd much rather be alone for the right reasons than with someone for the wrong ones. I also would never exclude women who have children or pets. I don't think I would want to create children at this point in life. I'm a bit of a loner and prefer women who enjoy the simple things. Ideal match would be someone who's very liberal or perhaps middle of the road, a believer in a creator or some kind of higher power or an agnostic, an appreciator of the outdoors, physically active, gets absorbed in watching good movies, enjoys a good book, and who likes a glass of wine. I'm not interested in anyone who's a type A, high-maintenance personality--meaning I like being around women who enjoy the simple things as opposed to the material. At this point in my life I'd like to simplify and not carry too much around with me. Would really like someone who's capable of enjoying the time spent with one another without a fixed picture in her mind of how things should be. I have no preferences with regard to race, color, or creed. Compassion and empathy are the qualities I'm most interested in in human beings. I also love women who love to laugh. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of dating smokers (you'd have to have a lot going for you to get past this problem, but anything's possible). I also can easily be friends with women without the necessity of developing a sexual relationship. I love women and greatly treasure the many platonic friendships that I have with them. I tend to find many men to be a little single dimensional in friendship, whereas women often tend to be a little more diverse and able to express themselves in many ways. There are many exceptions, I suppose, but not too many. Maybe that's why I'm still friendly with my ex-girlfriends, many of whom live thousands of miles away but who still call and email quite a bit to keep caught up with my life. I've never broken up badly with anyone, or, If I did, the bad feelings were very brief and quickly transformed into friendship.
