I recently took up running as a hobby and ran my first marathon last Labor Day. I am fairly handy - have learned by trial and (lots of) error how to fix (and how not to fix) most things. I enjoy entertaining and cooking, although I don't claim to be a gourmet chef by any stretch (my kids will whole heartedly attest to that). I may not be the "life of the party" but I enjoy laughing with friends, can manage well in social situations and am fairly adept at carrying a conversation. I like to meet new people but would rather get to know one person deeply than spend the evening in small talk with many people. Life is too short to be superficial!
What am I looking for? Well, I can tell you what I am NOT looking for: if you are controlling and bossy, if you tend to be critical of others rather than extending grace, suffer from frequent bouts of intense irritability, left your last husband because "you grew apart" or "he wasn't meeting your needs", view the bible as "helpful tips" rather than principles to live by or can't imagine having a good time without inebriation, please move along. Ideally, I am looking for an adventurous, selfless, caring, compassionate, honest, low key (as in having reasonable stress tolerance), energetic, positive/upbeat , forgiving, kind, generous, humble (as in willing to admit mistakes), self-reflective, accepting and fun woman to spend my life with who understands the greater purpose for which we are given life.
What do I believe? I believe that you learn the most from people that you disagree with. I believe that accepting others for who they are without trying to change them is the foundation for a loving and respectful relationship and humility and selflessness are the lubricants that allow a relationship to function without grinding to a screeching halt. My faith is very important to me and I would like to meet somebody who shares similar values and beliefs. Specifically, a bottom line for me is that, like me, my partner will believe that the Bible is God's inspired guide for our lives and the ultimate authority for us. It is also imperative that my partner has trusted in Jesus for their salvation and strives to submit her actions and choices to God's will and direction. I know, easier said than done. The key word is "strives"!
