In general I am pretty busy. When I have some free time on weekends I like to hike, camp, bike, snowboard or pretty much take part in anything outdoors. I also like to go to museums and enjoy theater, I also like botanic gardens for photography. I'll go to a bar once in a while but it has to be a pub type bar and not a dance club, I must be growing up.
I like to travel and have been to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Central America and throughout the US. There are many places left on my list including Machu Pichu, the Galapagos, Argentina, Prague, Indonesa, etc. While I enjoy getting the most out of my free time sometimes there is nothing better than an evening on the couch recharging the batteries.

SO, I grew up on the Great Lakes and even though water still owns my soul, the mountains have my heart. I have two sons, one a sophomore in college, the other a senior in high school. I have spent the past 19 years being a dad, and I have tried to teach them to find interests and passion in their lives. They are leaving home, but will always have a place with me and their needs will always come first. This new start in life has left me pretty confused, as I am sure rebirth does for most. It has also opened a lot of doors, doors I wouldn't have thought of trying if it were a different time in my life.
While I might prefer bar food because it lacks pretension, I really don't dwell in bars. Happy hours occassionally or if friends are heading out, and even during a ride on the motorcycle, but I cannot say I'm a biker. I would rather be out with you at an intimate restaurant, event or experience, giving and receiving undivided attention. I don't have a frail ego, I just give everything, to everything I do. I expect something similar in return, if not directed at me, per se, at least direct that approach to how you are going to live you life.
As active as I am, my home is a sanctuary. I prefer to cook what I eat, though a breakfast burrito from a "greasy-spoon" is sometimes what I crave. I relish having a meal ready for my friends and family, from lasagna to steak, salads to get lost in or crab-cheese enchiladas, and now because of my sons interest have started to broaden my menu to include more vegetarian and vegan selections. My friends say I can bake a wicked "blonde-brownie!"
Somethings I know about myself: I'm hyper-independent, probably to a fault in the wrong relationship. I know this caused some of the problems in my marriage and I know how to correct it in the future. I hold myself to very high standards, and sometimes that can be interpreted as criticism of others. That isn't the case, but I would expect a partner to hold themselves to similar high standards. I prefer to show love/affection through acts of giving, yet now understand the value of shared time and experiences are as important to building a connection as anything. I struggle with living in the moment, and have a history of worrying too much about what will happen, and continuously critique myself, my past actions, thoughts and failures. Learning to "just be" is something yoga has helped me with and I am working to expand my mediation time, I've even downloaded an app for it?!
You would be someone who has had a similar journey, understands that mistakes can be great teachers and that sometimes falling really hard is the best teacher of all. Also you understand that life is about participation; Running, skiing, hiking, camping, motorcycling, mountain biking, home improvement projects, traveling near or far, sitting quietly enjoying a beer after all of that, or a strong cup of coffee before are things you embrace or are open too. You aren't afraid of someone giving you that attention, yet your strong enough to spend time on your own. You recognize that something good will take time, there isn't a rush. Friendship, companionship, common interests will be a great start. Shared experiences, common causes and dedication to growth can take anything to the next step. There are not many things I won't try twice, how about you?
Middle of June 2012 Update: Still wondering and wandering. Have spent time rebuilding my best friends deck, working on a Habitat for Humanity house, getting my youngest son graduated, sharing quality time with them running, exploring, watching Tosh.O, had a few dates and am planning out the next big adventure. Wilco was amazing, have climbed Mount of the Holy Cross, and Mount Evans, finishing up all the peaks in the Sawatch and Front Range.
