I love going to the movies, eating at great steak houses every once in a while, and driving with my convertible top down with the wind in my hair! I'm not materialistic in anyway. Yes I get my nails done every once in a while, but that's about the extent of it. The most important aspects of my life are my family especially my grandchildren.

Being "right" is the difficult part since, as older individuals, we have lived much of our lives and come to new relationships with positive and negative experiences. I guess you could say we all have our baggage; however, the bags get impossibly heavy if we can't unpack the negatives and leave them behind.
Who's the perfect person? No one. There's no such thing as perfection; however, if perfection existed, it would be in the guise of someone with whom I can relax, laugh, love and enjoy life; someone who is serious yet can be silly; and someone who is willing to become part of a team of two facing the joys, adventures, and sorrows that remain in life. There are the usual qualities of intelligence coupled with a good sense of humor; a kind and loving heart; gentleness, patience and understanding; protectiveness; a good grasp of reality and how to productively deal with it; a willingness to try new things, travel to new places; an innocence and enthusiasm that allows for the enjoyment of new experiences; an ability to feel joy; and a willingness to take a chance on love. That last one is a kicker since most of us have found it easier to walk away. I wonder if there's anyone out there willing to take a chance?
I enjoy a lovely home, good friends, entertaining, and most of the home "arts," but also experience wanderlust . I love to travel, to meet new people, see, experience and learn as much as possible about the world, and, yes, I do love shopping. I have a little streak of the adventurer and very much enjoy hiking and SCUBA diving. Tried zip-lining a couple of months ago and loved it. No jumping out of airplanes, however. I am financially secure and expect that in a partner. Money is important only in that it allows for security, the ability to help others when needed, and the ability to enjoy travel and its activities without worry. Life, however, is to be enjoyed daily with or without money.
A word on compatibility. It's nice; it's comfortable; it allows us to relax; however, too much of it can be boring. It's the differences we bring to a relationship and the knowledge, understanding and acceptance that we gain that add the spark and keep the interest going. I would like to find someone who fascinates me and is fascinated by me. Impossible? Probably, but I'm optimistic and willing to try. Are you?
Gratitude? I'm grateful for my family and the best childhood possible on this earth. I've learned honesty, dignity, humor, humility, courage, acceptance, the value of love, appreciation of fun and the value of a good work ethic from wonderful parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts. They were truly the "greatest generation." I'm grateful to my best friend who demonstrates love and sympathy for others, honesty, and honor on a daily basis. I'm grateful to my former students who have taught me far more valuable lessons than they ever learned from me. I'm grateful for foreign travel. Although the people of these countries have been wonderful, I'm so very grateful to be an American. (We're not perfect, but we keep trying!)
If you're fortunate enough to have children and grandchildren, you're truly blessed. They are your history and your future. Although I never married and do not have children of my own, I have a beautiful grandniece whom I love to love and quite a few former students who still consider themselves to be my children . (Go figure that one!)
