Maybe it's because farming is hard work!
It's not glamorous.
It doesn't pay a lot, especially when you're starting out as a first generation farmer.
And no, you can't travel as much as you might like, when you have crops and livestock to tend to.
Food is important though, wouldn't you agree?

*Did you know that over 50% of the food we consume here in the US is grown somewhere else? Yes, even Whole Foods frozen broccoli is produced in China!
*Did you know that America has lost around 50 Million (yes, MILLION!) small farmers since the 1950's?
This country was founded by strong men and women, many of whom produced food or something else for a living.
I wonder what they would think of it now?

I'd rather be pulling turnips in a cold rain, or harvesting peppers in the hot sun, than sitting in a building under fluorescent lights all day.

I moved to Arkansas in December to start a small farm... herbs, seasonal veggies, goats, ducks, chickens, and bees... see homesweetfarm.
It would be nice to have a partner and best friend who shared the same dream. Two can get it done easier than one.
I have a dog that loves to go everywhere with me, hiking, mtn biking, in-line skating, or just for a ride in the truck.
I also have eight dairy goats that would like to follow me everywhere as well, but they don't have the required manners. They kidded about a month ago, and now I have 5 little ones... pretty much a circus.
I read quite a bit, when I have time.
Lately, a lot of books about goats, but also quite a bit of alternative news online.
It amazes me how few people seem to realize where this country is headed and why.

I like all sorts of stuff, from Frank Black and the Catholics, to the Old 97's, and from blues to reggae.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Texas music. The local AM station here plays Polkas, Waltzes, and Schottisches on Saturday mornings. The funny part is people make requests!
