Meet someone special from United States. The best way of defining who I am is by describing where I live. I have a cabin on a lake in the Chugach National Forest, on the coast of Alaska. It is in a rain forest of hemlock and spruce. My closet neighbors are miles away. I live there part time. The closest town is 25 miles away, 20 minutes by way of float plane, two hours by way of boat. I have the only substantial structure on the lake. The lake is visited by fisherman in the fall and rarely anyone else the rest of the year.
I built the cabin over the past twenty years. It has a creek that provides water and electricity. There is a sauna at the base of a fourteen foot waterfall with a cooling pool to plunge into. A creek flows out of the lake into the ocean. Four species of salmon and trout spawn in the creek and halibut can be caught in the salt water just off shore.
Weather is abundant and often violent. Storms can bring two inches of rain an hour, sometimes raising the lake level five feet in as many hours. The lake is at the base of a semi circle of mountain ridges. Mountain goats raise their young on the upper slopes. Mountain lakes dot the benches; berries provide food for the many black bears that populate the area.
The cabin is of a Norwegian design. It has hot and cold running water, beautiful ash cabinets, a refrigerator, a propane stove, flush toilet and shower. Living here is not roughing it. It is peaceful and delightful. The inclement weather brings an appreciation for the many days of glorious sunlight. The solitude brings an appreciation for friendship and camaraderie. The world is quite here, you can think.
I spend my time here working on projects, reading and writing. My current project is building a tree house one hundred feet up in a trio of Sitka Spruce with views of the rugged Alaskan coast line and the mountains that surround the lake.
I am connected to the outside world via satellite telephone and by high speed satellite internet. I fly to Seward, Anchorage or Cordova for supplies and to hang out with friends.
I like to travel and get down to “America” a couple times a year. I make my living via the internet.
I’m looking for someone to share this with. I think you will be one in a thousand, maybe one in a hundred thousand. Most reading this will shriek with laughter or disbelief. This is not the typical Western Civilization experience yet it is not all that rare for many living in Alaska’s “Bush”.
How about you? Does what I describe here resonate with you? Are you complete enough inside to be able to turn down the noise of the world and listen to your own thoughts, find your own peace? I certainly understand why this would not appeal to many. Most need much more connection with what we are typically surrounded by. I just get that in my own prescribed doses.
I would love to spend time with an adventurous woman willing and able to try out a little bit of life out in this part of the world. She must be fit, healthy and fun to be around. The cabin is eighty feet above the lake, lots of steps up the hill. The closest hospital is twenty five miles away and often not accessible for days due to weather. There is a lot of paddling, hiking, schlepping, etc. She must be full of passion, for things of the mind and the heart and willing and able to communicate and share those passions. I love to cook; it would be dang handy if she enjoyed cooking, canning, and making things with her hands.

I’m looking for a “no pressure” friendship, and we’ll see what grows from that. She’s has to be able to smile and laugh freely and be happy with who she is. She can’t be a drama queen, uptight or have a wall built up around her that won’t come down even a little when she’s in the company of a good man. I’m not chasing anyone. It’s either right or it’s not. And there are no hard feelings if it’s not. I don’t know 100 % of what I’m looking for, but I know what I’m NOT looking for. I know what I would like, much of which can be found in many people. But certain things will only be found in one.
A little about me, I love music. I can get along with most genres, but I’m mostly a rocker, classic to modern. I like some country. Rap and hip hop gives me a headache really fast though. I like seeing live bands. I love drag racing, baseball, football and could really care less about basketball until March Madness rolls around. If the Thunder are doing good, I can get into that. I don’t have a favorite pro football team, but I’m a Sooner in the college ranks. I know what’s going on in sports; I just don’t wrap my life around it. I do have a geeky hobby that I unwind with. I like to exercise on the machines at the community center a few times a week to kill the stress. And if the weather is nice, I’ll take off on my Trikke down the bike path. It’s quite a workout. There are a few television shows I like, and I’ll watch a couple of movies throughout the week, but otherwise, the television is off and the stereo is on while I’m messing around on the computer, doing my hobby, or reading a good book (yes, men do read). And if everything is turned off, I’m either out with my friends or sleeping. I also get a little dangerous in the kitchen sometimes. The Crock Pot is my friend...
