I live in Tempe, but just bought a house in Chandler and will be moving there May 2012. I'm basically the guy next door. Academia is a huge part of my life. I am a first year Ph.D Student working on my Master's in Passing in the Department of Religious Studies at Arizona State University studying Modern Islam. My field also requires fluency in a pertinent language, I have studied three years of Persian. I am the first graduate of the Persian program at ASU. I am also a teaching assistant for the courses "Lost Scriptures, Lost Christianities," and "Islam in the Modern World."
In high school I studied music with a focus on theory, clarinet, upright bass, and classical guitar. I do not have much time for music anymore, but I do pick up the guitar when I am able. I do still spend an inordinate amount of time looking for new music and shows.
I am a big fan of modern radio. My favorite radio shows include Wiretap, This American Life, Radiolab, Risk!, The Moth Storytelling Hour, Hearing Voices, and the Joe Frank Radio Hour. I am a very aural person and stories, interviews, and other "soundscapes" tend to affect me more than text.
