Although I like stuff, I get more enjoyment out of empathy and being empathetic, out of laughing with friends and family, out of just being with caring and nice folks. By this age we have all had some setbacks and some victories or learning experiences as some like to call them. In my experience, joy and fear is where the bonds are made. It's not in the dining out, but in the nakedness of the conversation. It's not in the going to Hawaii, it's the facing your fear of putting your face in the water, with loving support, so you can experience the riot of color and motion of the little fish and share air with your companions. It may be in the teaching a friend how to use a power tool or in learning from your brother how to play the guitar. Wouldn't it be nice to share your life with someone who is curious, who is kind, who shares their setbacks and victories and who is present for your setbacks and victories. And when not in the cradle of life's lessons, I'd love to simply share time. I feel good when I'm sharing time. I'd like to hold hands and whisper and have a belly laugh too. I like to feel close.

A little more about me… I built my previous home from scratch, as well as completely restoring a 1910 Victorian. I am planning on building “green” home; maybe this will be the home I retire in.

I was together with a woman for 6 years -- until about 9 months ago -- and I met her about a year after being married for 11 years. Any kind of person might be the right one for me... who knows? I am more mature now, but was a bit of a Peter Pan. Worked as a lawyer for years before joining the Peace Corps, working for the courts and going back to working at firms. I try to make time for my kids, 18 and 14, before they become even more self-sufficient. Daughter has now gone to University. I have my son at my house about 1/2 time, but the rest of the week I am free to be an have adult fun, conversation and maintain a relationship. I like a lot of things but they are not essential: music, movies, hiking, dancing (I'm not formally trained, but have fun and would take lessons if you'd like), travel. I'm more of a "night" person. I can sometime be watching Charlie Rose after midnight, and I care about the world, art, politics and national events. But I don't mind an early person, or someone with other interests - I am flexible. Someone with an intense interest in something can excite me to explore it, too, and I like new things. A caring relationship is a priority. The essential thing is the heart. Someone to know, and to be known.
