A typical question is "why is it so easy in our 20s". To me the answer is a "no-brainer". In our 20s (sometimes 30s) we're willing to start building something together. We didn't expect someone to come along and "plug" in to a life that we had already created and intended to preserve (at all cost in some instances).
Unless one is willing to pare down and start something new he or she shouldn't expect the benefits of doing that, in other words, the results that occured in youth. I see couples in mid life behaving more like to distinct individuals that get together occasionally. They're not really a couple. It's not easy to establish this kind of relationship again (if you ever had one) but when you fill in that place on your I.D. that says "In Case of Emergency Call" you want someones name to be there that you're completely comfortable with.
Most of us (or at least many) have kids. So our connection to the past is definitely there. They don't necessarily preclude the possiblilty of new love and life though. At the risk of sounding sexist I'll just say that I've met many more women than men that are resigned to and look forward to their role as Grandparent. This makes the search a little more difficult but worth the trouble in the end.
What I seek is that rare woman who pursues that chance of new love and new life. This, also, doesn't preclude the possiblity of being a good parent or grandparent it accentuates it, in my opinion.
