I started life on a small farm in Iowa until my parents sold the farm and moved to California when I was 13 years old. Yes, I did get up at 5 AM every morning and do chores when I was a kid. Growing up on a farm you learn to be self-sufficient and how to figure things out for yourself. That has a lot to do with the kind of person I am today. I did grow up in a Christian home and I have that faith today.
After a divorce at 29 years old I went back to school and spent the next 10 years getting a BS in Accounting and an MBA from ASU. Just decided I wanted an education. But after a few years of trying the "professional" life it didn't take long to figure out it wasn't for me. I have been self-employed much of my life and continue to be today. I have a business here in Fountain Hills (with an office and warehouse and real employees and everything).
I have two grown children who live in Southern California and I make several trips a year to see them and the rest of my family. All my family lives over there. Personally I prefer the country and small-town living suits me just fine. If I could I'd move further up the road to Pinetop. If you think San Francisco, or LA, or New York city is just the greatest place to be, you and I will probably not get along very well.
I have been clean and sober for 14 years (yes I go to those meetings). I don't mind if you drink, but if drinking is important to you we are probably not a good match.
I enjoy camping, hiking, riding my mountain bike, taking my Jeep out on off-road excursions, and traveling to out of the way places. Trips to the high country in the summer, etc. I enjoy the outdoors more then the indoors. Nice resorts are fine as long as there is something to see or things to go do. I don't know why anyone would spend a bunch of money to stay in a fancy resort just laying around the pool, getting a massage, etc. I can do that at home.

Meet a man from Arizona, United States. First, I’m a writer. Lifelong passion, so happiest when deep in a writing project. I write articles for trade magazines, newsletters, websites, etc. I edit a couple of newsletters and ghostwrite articles for “industry experts.” I have a degree in Journalism and actually write for fun and profit. So, I’m not that struggling novelist you were probably expecting when you read, “I’m a writer.” But of course I do have a finished but unpublished novel. What self respecting “writer” doesn’t? I’m outlining a couple of new book concepts right now. During the outline process, I tend to tape lots of notes to the wall… and stare at them. Someday (possibly a Tuesday) this is what I’ll do full time.
I teach one and two day seminars for a few companies… in Phoenix, Chicago and NYC currently. I speak at tradeshows and training events around the country and in Europe. I like to be in front of a crowd, teaching and sharing what I’ve learned over the years. They always clap at the end so I think I’m pretty good at it.
I travel fairly regularly, two to four times a month depending on the time of year, mostly working tradeshow booths for companies on a contract basis. When I’m not traveling I work from home, so my pool is really clean.
Also, I own a screen printing supply business, selling software, film, ink, etc. to garment printing companies. Most of my suppliers drop ship orders for me, because my goal is to become totally mobile and ready to travel for work or pleasure at a moments notice.
So what do you get with me? Not that guy who circles the bar trying to talk with every woman who makes eye contact. I describe myself as a regular guy… fun and funny, compassionate, interested in what’s going on in the world, and trying to make a positive impact on the people I meet. A great date for me would be dinner, dancing, talking, laughing and really getting to know one another. Second date… something on the grill and hanging out watching old black and white movies.
In the end, I’m just looking for a little passion in my life. But hey, who isn’t?
By the way, "separated" for the past year means permanent... done, done and done. And we get along great, so no drama.
I love college and pro football, and love, love, love college basketball. Twin sons graduated from Kansas so we’re big time Jayhawk fans. They both live in Austin, so we tend to text back and forth continuously during televised games. I’m very close to my kids. I talk or text with my sons in Texas at least once a day. My daughter at ASU calls more like five times a day. My 11 year old daughter… well she just talks all the time. Seriously, she a talker.
I’m a student of history. I’ve stood on the Gettysburg battlefield at 6:00 am breathing in the enormity of it all. Spent days roaming the halls of the Smithsonian, and the incredible museums in Berlin. Sat and watched in awe the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier over and over again. A goal is to visit Normandy. Speak French? You could come… as I do not speak French and would prefer to be on the right train.
I’ve been to Europe several times and plan to go back soon. A few trips to the Caribbean, the last time for a speaking engagement which was pretty cool. Love quirky places like Key West, and Austin for a visit with my sons and for live music on 6th.
I also like camping, hiking, the water, the beach, hanging out with friends. (We’re that laugh-out-loud table you hear on the other side of the bar.) I tend to tell long stories, all based in fact but I’m told the details get more remarkable with each telling.

My education is in Economics/Business Administration and I was self-employed my entire life in a couple of diverse fields. I am a private pilot and love to fly airplanes.. Motorhoming is something I enjoy and I like to travel to new and interesting places, both in the U.S. and across the ponds. I love to take the Harley out on a beautiful day and soak in nature's beauty. I enjoy music, can listen to most anything, but rap and "head banger" stuff doesn't do anything for me! At home I always have some projects going around the house, yard, or garage - there's not much that I can't fix and I like the challenges. I'm a pretty good cook and I keep my house pretty clean too!
One of my favorite areas is the Black Hills of SD and I like to spend time there, especially in the summers. I'm a great tour guide if you haven't been there!
