When I was 20 I decided to take a "semester off," from college which turned into about 7 years. I just got caught up in moving around and having fun and let quite a bit of time pass by. Now I'm poised to graduate from APU in December, and I'm really looking forward to moving along with my life, degree in hand.
During the snowy months I love to ski. I skate ski, downhill at Alyeska and volunteer with Challenge Alaska, an adaptive ski school in Girdwood. I also love backcountry skiing, and a portion of the training I am getting at APU is in Snow Science. In the summer I work for the Forest Service based out of Girdwood, building trails. Currently we are working on a new system of trails near the Spencer Glacier and Grandview, accessed via the Alaska Railroad. My job is extremely rewarding; I enjoy the hard work, and I work in a backcountry setting, doing eight day "hitches" and then enjoying six days off. In my summer free time I love to catch salmon, camp, hike, and travel to some of the more "off the beaten path" destinations that our state has to offer.

I enjoy good food, good coffee, and good beer, especially when done in the company of friends. I am also a big fan of being outdoors, especially hiking, camping, and kayaking. I look forward to adding winter sport to my repertoire, and look forward to getting back into snowboarding (there are not a ton of great spots to do that in the south east) and learning to cross-country ski.
I work hard, and play the same way. I try not to take myself to seriously, and really am just a goofball at heart. Life really is too short to be worried about much, and I know that with a good attitude and a positive outlook that success will come.
I am looking for someone who is comfortable in their own skin, and with whom I can develop a lasting friendship and intimate relationship. I am not clingy, and do not do well in relationships where the other person is either. I am a firm believer in a relationship expanding one's life, not defining it. Being open minded and laid back is important; getting hung up on how other people live their lives is not a trait I embrace, since I believe that it limits the possibilities of life.
At the end of the day, I believe that it is the experiences we have, the friendships we have created, and the way we act in our day to day life that is what defines us. While "stuff" can make our lives more pleasant and easier, ultimately it only ties us down and limits our options. Materialism and consumerism are definite turn offs (I know, it sounds odd coming from someone who works in retail) and I try to live my life simply. I guess I believe the old adage "less is more" and I try to live by it.
