I was born in 1957 in a town outside of Chicago, one of five kids-- all boys (I often wish I had a sister or two). My dad was in the news business and we moved to Washington when I was a kid. We also lived near New York. After college and grad school I worked for CNN and got married. My wife and I had two children. In the early nineties I got a job in London, and we lived there for 6 years, and then in Moscow for 2 more. Living abroad was a wonderful experience and a treasured part of my life that I look back upon happily.
We moved back to Washington and I worked for various TV news agencies.
