It's my all-time favorite movie and really changed my life!" Toss in a couple of lame cliches designed to impress you gals with how strong, self-sufficient and yet sensitive I really am: “If I weren’t so busy ironing my own gym clothes, I’d have more time to adopt abandoned puppies!” And voila, you now have an Instant Internet Profile suitable to make any snap judgment from.
Okay getting serious for a moment, those pictures you see up above are fairly recent and not from 8 years or 80 lbs ago (I’m currently sans goatee). I'm a person who believes that the rules for a successful relationship are about the same as the rules for sharing a lifeboat: don’t make any sudden moves; don’t crowd the other person; remain calm & keep any thoughts of impending disaster to yourself and above all, never jump overboard even if the other person is driving you totally nuts;-) However I'll award bonus points to anyone who would also throw all the Kardashians to the sharks.

I probably should have reviewed the suggestions on this site on how to create an attention-grabbing profile, but I've never been particularly good at following directions. So I won't mention that I love to travel, spending time with friends, or that I can go from jeans and t-shirt to black-tie in the blink of an eye (or two).
I am thrilled to be back in L.A., after 17 years away from my hometown. I have lived and worked in a half-dozen places, including Thailand, D.C., and Michigan, just to name a few.
I am a mix of unlikely contradictions: an idealistic business school graduate who wants to make a lasting contribution to public service; a child of local beaches, who still misses the experience of digging my car out from 18 inches of a Michigan snowfall; a person who has always lived in big cities, big schools, and big organizations--yet enjoys intimate gatherings and small groups. I believe in really going after what I want, no matter how far out of reach it may seem---even if I fall flat on my face or get laughed at.
I regard myself as an extremely fortunate person because I choose not to wait for things in life to come to me, and refuse to cheat myself out of a beautiful, compelling life by resorting to pessimism.
Making people laugh has always been central to my interactions with others. To the relief of many, I've toned this aspect down quite a bit since the days of being sent to detention every other week for busting up the class in 7th grade with my sarcastic and wildly inappropriate comments.
Despite these distractions, I enjoy a good, intense discussion on history, architecture, art, business, and entertainment. There are times I enjoy being the contrarian in the group, and providing a point of view that hasn't always been considered. I am at my best with people who can see past the usual trappings of status, job titles, geography, background, or affiliations. (I mean, just because you're a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes or USC Trojans doesn't mean you're any less worthy to have around as a friend).
I am a firm believer that it's never what you disagree on, but how you handle the disagreement that says the most about a person--and the relationship.
Likewise, I have a deeply-rooted aversion to preconceived notions and rigid categorizations. I'm comfortable enough in my own skin to spend time with people who don't always agree with me. I take a back seat to no one when it comes to being true to myself, and serving others.
Having a professional musician for a dad meant that having a flair for expressing joy, imagination and creativity in personal interactions has always been a central part of my upbringing. I am shameless when it comes to my appreciation for things as diverse as ballroom and contra dancing, Civil War history, Big Ten football, bowling, and cooking stir-fry.
That said, I am more than the sum of my experiences, beliefs and attributes, and imagine anyone reading this would expect to be evaluated on more than just a few attributes and experiences as well.
