Date a soulmate from United States. What seems like a lifetime ago, I thought I knew what I wanted in a mate and it worked for many years. But life has a way of sculpting a person and pealing away the pretense and then one comes to a point where one knows exactly what kind of person will be a good fit and sometimes it's not the one you hooked up with in your 20's. The strange thing is that it is practically impossible to put who that person is into words, but you know who that person is when you see them and talk with them for a while. Me, I was in a very regimented industry for many years and finally got out about 10 years ago and now run a successful business. It takes a lot of time but I really love my work and enjoy all that it entails. Date single man from United States. About me? I'm lucky. One time at Valley Fair mall I entered a drawing and won the grand prize out of 10,000 entries - a nice trip to Cabo. I was a big deal on my cul de sac for an entire week. Until my next door neighbor won $168 million in the lottery. I wasn't such a big deal any more. And didn't see even a dollar of neighbor-love. In fact - he even asked for his rusty hedge trimmer back. True story. Still, I feel lucky. I have incredible friends and a great family. I love my boys dearly and am trying hard to prepare them for life. They are 13 and 15 and at dinner awhile back my oldest asked what “virgin” meant. I took a deep breath and carefully explained that until a person has a sexual experience they are considered a virgin. I went on to articulate how some people choose to hold onto this virginity until marriage and how that is an individual’s choice and how sex is something to consider carefully as you get to that age and time in your life. That led me to a delicate review of unwanted pregnancy and STDs and how it could change their lives and so on. He sat quietly and listened and after a good 5 minutes I asked him if that answered his question. He said, “Um, I guess so, but I was just wondering because the salad dressing bottle says Extra Virgin Olive Oil on it.” Sort of sums up fatherhood for me…
I keep fit, eat pretty healthy and strive for a balanced life. In fact – that’s why I started yoga. I’ve learned it’s not just for skinny, spiritual people that like wearing tight, black outfits. I find it has improved my flexibility, balance and also great for calming the mind – and plus I’ve discovered a lot of new types of granola and learned some women prefer not to use deodorant. Had no idea.
I can get along with just about anyone. I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue. I appreciate routines but love trying new things and there are many things I want to learn still, and ways in which I want to grow. I have my boys half-time, and lately when they are with me all of a sudden they’d rather be with their buddies, unless they need spending $ - then I’m popular in my house. [Me about me] While I tend to agree with my buddy, I can't pretend I'm for everybody. I don't think I'd be here if I were. In fact, what I'd shoot for -- the style and charm from the old movies with modern competence, say if Bogart (without the smoking) were Batman (without the Robin) -- would sound odd (or phony) to many. But I'm only semi--kidding. I'm at home and happy in many worlds. I attended a friend's performance of a Bach chorale. I had my first trumpet recital a couple weeks ago. I've climbed Half-Dome the hard way. I completed the 2011 Wildflower Half Ironman. I'll actually carry a lady's bags to her car. I can do lots of things: build bicycles; plumb, wire, and tile a bathroom; ride a Ducati; ice climb (years ago); and suit up for a charity event, symphony, or a brake job. I've even bottled a few barrels of wine under my own label (for fun, not profit). I’ve an odd, off-beat sense of humor. I like silly puns (We’re going to Greece! And swim the English Channel?). I am calm when bad things happen - even when I'm the cause (accidentally, of course). I was raised in the Midwest and left as soon as I realized I could live in places like San Francisco, which happened while I was living in Italy. My current fun activities are heavily centered on cycling, with weekly yoga to compensate, and trumpet lessons. I'm well traveled (Europe - from Crete to the Arctic Circle. Japan, some. Turkey - to bookend Asia.). I’ve lived and worked and played and eaten in a number of countries (the UK, France, Germany, Northern Italy, Northern Sweden, Northern Kentucky, Southeastern Michigan), so I'm comfortable with new and unusual people and situations. I'm occasionally spontaneous to the point of buying a ticket and taking off for a different continent, but the common denominator for how I prefer to spend my time is a table of food and drink surrounded on all sides by friends.
No one has ever said about me: “I can never get him to go (or do) [name it, except for illegal activities - no drugs of any kind allowed] with me” (and, yes, I’ve had a fiance before, and a number of girlfriends or significant others, though I think we need a more elegant name). I try to limit my hypocrisy and am aware that my "no drugs or smoking" is at odds with my wine consumption (in respect to drinking, "regular" means "often with dinner," not hourly). I'm looking for someone who wants to be an enthusiastic and equal participant with, not observer of, the person they imagine from this intro.
