Meet a soulmate from California, United States. I've been very lucky to be able to make a living pursuing exactly what I always wanted to do. However, I realize that it's also been a way to escape most of the responsibilities of being an adult. Something about a Peter Pan Syndrome. However, Peter's getting older.
During my leave from Viet Nam, I went to Hong Kong, which I had always wanted to see, and as I was crossing that iconic harbor from Kowloon to the Island, I realized that what I was mostly experiencing was a sadness that I had no one with whom I could share the experience. For most of my life, I’ve managed to bury that feeling. I’ve climbed mountains in Adirondacks, Sierra, and Gabriels, SCUBA dived in the Carribean and Red Sea, and learned to pilot an airplane. I’ve concentrated on acting: in workshops and classes, in commercials, theatre, movies and TV, more or less successfully.
That feeling has caught up with me.
I no longer want to go to a concert or a ball game alone. I no longer want to have be witty or clever or smart (except in private)… if indeed I ever was. And it’s more than just wanting a companion who can put up with five hours of Wagner. What I want to do is make a gift of what I now have to offer, and be open to your gifts.
I hope to find someone who will actually enjoy experience as I do, and who I find attractive and who finds me attractive. That’s the tall part of the order: finding someone who I find attractive who actually finds me attractive. It’s the old Groucho issue about belonging to any club that would want him. Well, I’d like to see if I can find a club…uh, woman, to join with (all right, the metaphor gets a little dicey here.) I'm not that unattractive actually. Having been a bachelor all my life, I’ve often been asked why. My answer has changed every decade. I’m beginning to think that they’ve all been rationalizations.
But I also now know that there’s still so much about me that I don’t, and will never, know or be able to put into words that I’m going to leave it there. I figure that I'm not done, turn me over. There’s still a lot of exploring to do. I once had an acting coach who said it: relationships, life, experiences…they're all grist for the mill.
This is getting exciting.
