Dad- conservative fireman/rancher who took over the family ranch when my grandparents retired.
Mom- educated liberal, a little eccentric, eastern philosophies, with a little hippy in her (yeah, I don't know how they got married) Something about cute, young, and a cool car I think--they didn't stay together long.
So I would spend summers attending "bootcamp" at the ranch, while my Dad toughened me up! and tried his best to undo all my mom's work raising me (i'd like to think he succeeded at one and failed at the other, I'll let you decide on that! ....but the end result, left me with a unique perspective--able to straddle both worlds, but not truly belonging to either. To my dad's side of the family, I think I'm still the liberal, artsy city slicker, and to my mom's side, I'm the "butch" cowboy.....
hmmm, maybe I'm an "artsy cowboy" or a "butch city slicker" but either way, its left me very open-minded, and able to appreciate all perspectives, opinions, and lifestyles. Plus, I grew up in a small town in Nevada and spent a lot of time on the ranch, but have been mainly a city boy as an adult- NY, LA, SF, Hon. Seattle and now....back to CA. Have worked in the Arts for the last 15 years and its kept me moving around....which has had it good points and its bad.
