I am a fairly shy guy (probably the reason I am on here ...) so if you are looking for someone that could entertain 50 people at a party - that's not me. Conversations about life, the universe and pretty much everything in between within a small group are more my thing. Cooking diner for (and with) friends or baking a cake for a birthday, potluck or no reason at all is always time well spent in my book.
Most of my free time is spend either reading, learning (in a very broad sense), running / swimming or just enjoying the fact that California has a lot of sunshine. And if I ever move on to a different place I will miss the ocean the most.
I decided to subscribe again after taking a break from Match for a while - I guess for the most part simply to put myself out there. Like everyone else I am looking for the type of person that can bring a smile to your face just by being there. Anything else is just a question of chemistry. I am not looking for a fling or hookup and I don't like lies (or liars) - even the ones with good intentions - because life is simply too short to waste time with either of these

Meet a man from Goleta, United States. i consider myself an outgoing individual who doesn't wait around to see what life has to offer, but passionately seeks it. I LOVE TO TRAVEL. my last trip was to the Yucatan peninsula where i swam in cenotes and amazingly crystal clear lagoons, floated beautiful rivers, zip lined, and of course explored ancient ruins. all of this while trying to sober up from the night before! ok, so we didnt drink that much, but given the chance to dance, drink and enjoy the night you know i gotta take it. this is just one of the many trips i've taken, but it gives you an idea of the kind of traveling i like to do.
i have a great career that i love, which pays well and gives me an excessive amount of time off (two weeks a month, which apparently is all you need to plan world domination, or just take a trip somewhere). in return, i focus on being a highly motivated, dedicated, and hard working employee. so far this relationship has been more than beneficial. at least thats what i keep telling my boss.
my job isnt my life, but allows me to live my life. which includes underwater photography and a bunch of other fun things i'd love to tell you about.
i keep healthy because i like feeling good and being in good shape. that doesnt mean i dont have a rockstar weekend every now and then (well at least plenty of food, dancing and drinking).
and the woman of my dreams? well lets start with a date first and see where it goes. but please, love to laugh. laughing is like breathing, you wouldnt have much life without it. the last date i went on got mad at me because i had her laughing so hard that she cried and her mascara started to run. no, thats not typical, i dont usually try to make my dates cry, but hey, it happens. oh yeah, please take care of yourself. i dont think thats not too much to ask.

I used to be a well liked special education teacher who felt marginalized and resented by administration, so I went to grad school so I can be in charge and fire the admin types.

90% kidding anyway. I have things to accomplish and change and it was making me ill to see some of my kids written off by people who made 250k a year but balked at paying for needed services. In other words, misguided priorities.
I would classify myself as a type B with hidden type A qualities. I will work on something until I am happy with it, not until it is "good enough", even if it takes several hours.
I need reasons to take a break and some good distractions! I am sort of starting over in this region, since most of my friends and all of my family are in the Bay Area.
I'm looking for someone who likes things like camping, biking, people watching , movies, and day trips to all that there is in this area. Nerd or geek tendencies are very much welcome. I am a grad student so I clearly have some of those same tendencies myself. I'm pretty open to most activities, as long as there is good conversation.
