Maybe you're a hermit because you feel compelled to spend a month in the Amazon every year studying the migration patterns of blue-bellied beetles. Or maybe sometimes you like to stay at home and write songs for your trombone. You might have a lot of friends and like to go out a lot, but you always come back to your hermit nature to recharge. There are different kinds of hermits. I'm looking for the kind who has an active and full life, but who also enjoys the company of his own thoughts and is devoted to his own interests, whatever they may be.
As for me, I am a social person, and love parties and friends and intimate connections. But I also like spending time on my own, both when I'm single and when I'm in a relationship. I'm not looking for casual dating -- when I'm not with you I'm not out seeing other people. I'm just a pretty independent spirit and am looking for someone who is also an independent spirit, who is looking to bond with another one.
By trade I'm a fiction writer and a book editor, and I teach writing classes. I'm also in school now getting an MFA. I'm a combination of Berkeley hippie and New York transplant, and though the transplant occurred when I was two years old, for some reason I'm still sometimes mistaken for an east coaster. For what it's worth, I like animals, salty food, forests over beaches, small towns over big cities (though cities are fun now and then), and I sometimes cry while watching reality TV. (Come on, those biggest losers are heart-wrenching.) I know how to cook but unfortunately I don't know how to grocery shop. I have mixed feelings about technology; I am addicted to email (so says my mother) but I feel it shortening my attention span more every day. I read more fiction than nonfiction, but don't have time to read as much as I would like. I don't know exactly what my next relationship will look like -- I imagine it will take some navigation and discovery, but I think that could be fun.
