I played baseball much of my life (semipro) and am a lifelong Red Sox fan! I love long relaxing dinners with great wine, most music (except heavy metal and rap), particularly opera, jazz and blues, the theater and spend a part of most weekends hiking somewhere ( spent some time in the Cilento National Park in southern Italy last October --- hiked in the wilderness for 8 days, then toured southern Italy for 3 weeks). Was in Cuba over XMAS/New Year and spent the month of June in Turkey and Greece.
Friends say I am handsome --that's why they are friends (can't think of anyone that I resemble), with a full head of (gray) hair and beard. I served in the Air National Guard Dental Corp for 26 years and retired as chief of the ANGDC with the rank of colonel. My final duty station was the USAF Surgeon General's office in Washington DC.This was in addition to my full-time dental practice so I was on the go twice a month or more. I flew almost 250,000 domestic air miles from May 1990- April 1996 when I retired from the ANG. I have one son who lives in San Francisco.He has a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Oregon. His intelligence amazes me at times. I started reading his 288 page dissertation on the Dowist buddist sect in Taiwan and made it through 8 pages before I gave up.
I enjoy gardening especially hybrid tea roses. I grow some plants and trees not native to my area especially avocado which I have grown by sticking the pit in the ground. I have about 20 trees which are now producing.My garden is my natural Prozac and I try to spend a few hours there every day.

I live 4 blocks from the beautiful Pacific ocean with weather to die for in Dana Point Ca. in a fabulous boating community. Love the water and white sandy beaches. I also love a mountain lake or river and the fresh smell of pine trees and the delight of a new snowfall. As I get older, I'm in awe of the power and splendor of the mountains with less traffic and stress, such as North Lake Tahoe in Nevada and the likes of beautiful Colorado. This very organized guy has a GREAT love of SNOW SKIING, TENNIS and TRAVEL, (sports not required) along with that elusive game of GOLF, and wants to share exploring hidden white sandy beaches and how about a picnic in the majestic mountains with his sweetheart.
I Have a great appreciation of music. From the soulful ballads of Willie Nelson to the romantic songs of Andrea Bocelli. Love back yard BBQ's with friends and family, walks along the beach holding hands and watching beautiful sunsets and sharing our dreams with my sweetheart. My "WISH LIST". She is consistently an absolute JOY TO BE WITH, is a classy, quality lady with no drama. Life is meant to be fun and casual. I graduated from USC and later went into the Army where I served my country behind a typewriter. I was the batallion newspaper editor and loved writing sports stories. My social life has been very restrictive due to my involvement these past 27 years in a 12 Step program. I have been able to serve my God, my community and have recieved countless benefits. I enjoy movies whether they be action, love stories or sad. I want to feel it. I enjoy casual dining but on occasions I like a prime rib at Lawry's. I look for a woman with a sense of humor. Smart as well. In fact she can and has at times been a lot smarter. But I feel more comfortable if she has humor and enjoys the lighter side of life. I used to talk a lot of politics but have begun to lighten up a tad. In fact a lot. I will probably work till I drop dead. But a good vacation now and then would be very welcome. I have been taking up writing articles for our unit newspaper. I have been a registered Republican my whole life. But I think Obama is on the right tract regarding health insurance. I just don't like the way it was done. I am pretty darn average on the computer keyboards and don't mind people poking fun at me. And people think I am prehistoric when it comes to cell phones. I still have a land line. I mean it. I am a nerd. I cried watching Titanic. I laughed out loud viewing A Fish Called Wanda. I was envolved watching the play "Educating Rita. I want to go to the Rose Bowl game and watch the trojans beat the 2nd best team in the nation. My ex wife thought I was one of the most honest men she knew. And I agree. I am looking forward to the Olmpics. I want to see all 50 states. I like camping out. I would like to learn to dance. My wife was a wonderfull traveling companion. I would like to find a woman who enjoys sight seeing. And back to dancing. I would want a woman who would like to learn to dance wtih me. But if she already knows, great. She can teach me and I can save some money. Then I will take her out to dinner. I am serious about my 12 step program. I am pretty serious about the direction this country is taking politically and economically. But I would eventually like to get in there and do something rather than sit back and talk about it. When I feel stress, I go to the gym. A good walk on the beach is refreshing. My wife was a remarkable woman. She got more out of life in a few days than I did in a year. She was right and I am learning.

For Jazz I like Yoshi's in Oakland or Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle. Maui for snorkeling, beaches, art galleries, it's all good. Todos Santos for beautiful winter weather, tranquility, kayaking and whales. Jackson Hole for sheer scenic beauty. Scottsdale, Santa Fe, NY, and Carmel for art Galleries and good food. Almost any beach or rocky coast, Mendocino, Monterey, etc. The Gold lakes area locally for beautiful flowers, lakes and hiking. New Orleans for great Cajun restaurants. Would love to go to Europe or just about any place with the right person. I am a stock market news junkie and spend a lot of time researching the market.
Who I would like to meet: I would like to meet a woman whom I could count on for the long term but would like to start out by just being a good friend. She'd be financially stable (I cannot, will not be a sugardaddy). She'd appreciate me for who I am and not try to mold me into something I'm not. She wouldn't mind that I am a night owl. At a loss for describing who i am in a personal sense except to say i am a great listener and to tell of the path(s) i have taken: Born in Chicago, raised in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles), then left for college. I started out at Johns Hopkins undergrad (BA pre-med), started medical school but decided to go to UC Berkeley (1964 for love) and started a whole new path - architecture and planning (M Architecture) and Berkeley in the 60's. Was also in the Peace Corps in the 60's. Planning, politics, and Architecture in the 70's. Bought my place in Napa in the late 70's. In 1980 decided i wanted to learn about business, got accepted to Yale School of Management, rented out my Napa house, drove cross-country, graduated there and got hired by an investment bank in Manhattan to do real estate. Met my ex-wife there and two kids and 7 years later came back to Napa to raise the family. Marriage didn't last but i insisted on joint custody and my kids are great. Son is 27 and a director of operations for a fine dining restaurant group (BA Pomona College 06) and my daughter is an environmental economist (Princeton class of 2009) and working for a couple of years in New Zealand.
A good travel story: 6-day, spontaneous sail down the Adriatic from Venice to Corfu - 56 foot ketch - chatted with the skipper at the wharf next to St. Marks and he invited me and my girlfriend to crew - we parked the Saab in our campground tent and sailed the Adriatic to Greece then travelled all over Greece, Back to italy by ferry from Piraeus to Bari, train up the east coast of Italy with a day in Ravenna, picked up the car and drove through Italy for 2 weeks before putting the car on the deck of a passenger carrying freighter and sailing from Genoa to NYC - 13 days with a couple from Berkeley who had been on the road all the way to india for 18 months. Then across the USA to Berkeley and grad school.
The only downside to having had so many adventures and career paths is that i have no standing when i try to argue that my kids should stay close to home here in Napa.
