I walk, ride my bike and enjoy hiking as my main forms of exercise, though I've just joined my local Y. Through a diet heavy in fruits and vegetables and low in meat (no red meat right now) I maintain good health and have a good physique. Being healthy and engaged in healthy habits is an important part of my overall mental and physical well-being.

Well travelled and experienced, I am as curious and filled with wonder for the world, as passionate regarding ideas and causes, as enthused by dogs and underdogs, as physically fit and as ardent as I've ever been, but I'm wiser, kinder, more patient, and more generous as a friend, son and brother and slower handed more considerate lover than ever. I'm also an avid cyclist, hiker, reader and culture vulture jazz in particular, but open to virtually all other forms of music, film, theater, dance and art. I pride myself on my straight-from-the-shoulder, you-see-what-you-get integrity but try to live a life of what Jewish tradition calls loving kindness and Budhism, maitri: letting someone in on a line of traffic, or giving way to someone whose place on the grocery check out line is at best, ambiguously behind mine, or making time each day to walk a dog owned by a friend who's dying of cancer to keep them together at home as long as possible. In other words, striving imperfectly to weigh my own needs and wants of the moment against the value of small acts of generosity and consideration for the sake of making the world a bit of a better place, one small act at a time.

My exercise these days is mostly walking or hiking. I've decided to start taking dance lessons. I'm amazed at how much I like it. I like music, especially blues and rock, but never rap, and not so much dixieland or jazz.
I enjoy dinners and love movies, my favorite spectator art form. I like Indian, Mexican, Italian, and Chinese food. I enjoy photography, like discussions about politics and economics, and my spectator sports are football, politics, and the stock market. I'm learning acoustic guitar, I keep physically fit, and I'm more than half-way through writing a historical novel.
Recent books: The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene, I think I've read Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series and Trevanian's Shibumi at least three times each. Most recently The Enemy at the Gate by Andrew Wheatcroft.
