I've just returned home from three years of university in Scotland (two in NYC before that), where I graduated in June with a BSc Honors degree in Forensic Anthropology. I have some mannerisms left over from living in Scotland, so occasionally my accent will skip about 3000 miles to the right and back again. My vocabulary doesn't always add up to the appropriate region, and physical gestures, namely the one to tell people to f*** off is not native to Alabama (a backward peace sign with forward motionemphasis). Some find this quality endearing, others distracting - either way, I can't seem to help it.
I'm not the type of girl that wears a lot of make-up. In fact, IF I wear any, it'd be a wee bit of eyeshadow and some mascara. To me, this belies the fact that I'm more interested in what's beyond me. I watch my friends spend up to an hour meticulously applying layer after layer. I would find it such a waste of my time - time I could be engaged in some spectacular happening. That being said, I like being a 'girl'. I make an effort to look nice before I leave my home. I care about my appearance, but not enough to let it control my life.
A good portion of my life was spent playing soccer, up to university level. I became the keeper my junior year of high school, and enjoyed the physicality of that position a lot. It's a real adrenaline rush to have you going one-on-one with the striker from an opposing team and throwing yourself at a ball that could break your face if you don't catch it right. As a result, I picked up a few lasting injuries over the years, because I wasn't patient enough to let them heal. Nothing disfiguring, of course. ;)
I'm fantastic at fixing things, especially unconventionally. When most people give up, whether it's a computer problem or a broken chair, I find it challenging and fulfilling to complete the task, especially if it involves research on my part. The fixing also extends to being a mediator between people in situations or disagreements. I'm good at facilitating conversation between two people or groups to resolve problems. I think it comes from being an attentive listener. I always try to make the effort to listen to everyone, even if it's more than one person at the same time. One of my pet peeves is people not listening to me. I believe in the concept of 'treat others as you wish to be treated'. If you understand how it feels to be ignored, I think you'd be less inclined to ignore others (and whatever else that applies to).
I'm going to be completely upfront and explain that I'm very independent and quite able to take care of myself. I grew up in a military family and came to believe that it's important to be able to stand on your own two feet, without relying on others constantly. That being said, I don't have a problem with asking my friends for support when I need it. I am not an overly proud individual. I think what this means, in terms of this site, is if you're looking for a girly girl who will let you play 'the man', that likely won't be me. In that respect, I'm looking for a man who will be my equal.
Although I plan on settling down later in life, I don't want to rush. I love the beginning stages of relationships where it's fun and easy and about enjoying being together. My favorite weekends are spent camping at a state park and spending time with friends and family. Lol.. I like hiking, kayaking, swimming, etc --anything outdoors I'm pretty much game. In the summer I like to chill at my family's lake house and I love jet-skiing and tubing. I love traveling-- I've been a bunch of random places...I used to live on a tiny 2 mile long island--you should ask me about it! I'm passionate about my future and saving up money for the things I want to accomplish in my life. I want to live life to the fullest and travel all over the world and have an awesome time while doing so!

My 2 Biggest Pet Peeves:
#1. Someone who doesn't text back within a given time... (some people do it to maintain an "upper hand") but like i said I'm not into games and that's a sure fire way that I'll lose interest REAL fast. That being said, I promise I'm not someone who will text you every hour of every day.
#2. Someone who doesn't stick to what they say they're going to do. Whether it be in relationships/friends/family. Huge turn off. Have the conviction to do what you say you are going to.
Just an FYI, I'm independent and I don't mind being single for a while until the right person comes along. Additionally, I dont mind if we're in completely different cities because it really gives us a chance to get to know one another and build a strong connection. I mean, why limit you finding your match to just the city you currently live in? seems unwise to me. I mean if you're going to do internet dating you might as well take full advantage of it...because lets face it...distance is relative.
WHO I AM LOOKING FOR:
I've dated enough to know what I do and what I do not want in a person and/or a friend... so, Ideally, I would like someone is outgoing and confident, like me and someone who wants to explore the world with me! I want someone who is well educated and has goals and wants to succeed in life like me. I want someone who is considered attractive by the general public; call it what you want but we all have standards. I want someone to be supportive of me and my goals, to be patient, and to be consistent with how they treat me (between being alone and around others). I want someone who has similar family values and ties, and someone who I can goof off with and be silly with (I'm a HUGE smart ass), while mature about the things that matter like how you treat me, etc. While I'm independent, I do really like to be taken care of.
