I think enjoying an ordinary day is important. I wouldn't want to date a person who didn't have some skill at it.
MAKING TIME
I make time to do things I enjoy. Sailing a small boat. Riding a bicycle. Going to the gym. Going out to a sports bar. Etc. I do them regularly, don't miss out on them. Equally, some things I don’t do. I don't keep a perfect apartment. I don’t try to keep everyone happy. I believe in "good enough" for most things, and "best possible" for family or for art or craft.
RAT RACE
There's a reason it's known as a "rat" "race". I don't participate. I earn a decent living. I have a bankable degree that's virtually guaranteed never to lack employment (M.A., education). I work in marketing at the moment because I earn more than I would teaching, and it's a break from teaching.
MARRIAGE A PREFERENCE BUT ...
I have a strong preference for this result: a calm, happy marriage to a calm, happy woman, who will help me raise our calm, happy children.
I'm not set on marrying again. It seems unlikely. So much would have to be right, marrying is a kind of a long shot. But you can't win the lottery if you don't buy some tickets.
DATING
Dating is buying the tickets. It's enjoyable. You meet people. You learn from them, you enjoy time together. Maybe the lottery will be won.
JAPAN
I spent many years living and working in Japan -- most of my thirties. I loved it, and learned a lot there. If you also love Japan, or have a Japanese way of seeing things, dealing with people, and resolving and avoiding conflict, then I think you and I might enjoy spending some time together.
RELIGION AND POLITICS
I used to be religious. I used to have political opinions. Now I am not religious and don't have strong political opinions. Although given the current state of the parties, I'd vote Democratic in almost every case, I don't think political parties can have much legitimate meaning in the lives of people. There are deeper, more interesting objects of attention than political parties and their issues.
Most of what is called religion, especially here in our part of the world, is not interesting or relevant to me.
EATING
I like eating good, clean food. Japanese food especially. I like trying any kind of new food. All Indian food is a weakness. I don’t like eating deep fried food very often.
