I came to Birmingham 5 years ago from Israel for graduate school. I recently completed my PhD in marine biology, and moved to Auburn for a postdoctoral fellowship. It seems I'm destined to stay in the South a little while longer.
I enjoy the outdoors, I try to travel as much as I can, and It's great that my job allows me to do that.I've backpacked through South America for 6 months a few years ago, sailed around the Antarctic Peninsula on a 52' sailboat, and later returned to Antarctica and lived there for 4 months, working on my research.
I love scuba diving, too bad Auburnis so far from the ocean. Other than that I enjoy going out with friends, or just staying home and watching tv. I also love cooking and getting better at it all the time. Everyone says this, but it's probably true in this case: I'm not like any other guy you will probably ever meet. This may or may not be a good thing, however, so I'll let you decide...
I can probably best be described as a "thinker." I love good conversation and healthy debate about anything from political reform to plot holes in movies. It's definitely more important to me that a person can explain to me why they believe something than that they agree with me.
I'm not a sports fan of any kind. (What can I say--doing sounds like more fun than spectating any day of the week.) I also don't drink beer, couldn't care less about having the perfect lawn, and I like dogs, but love cats. If these things make me seem less manly, so be it. Besides, the way I look at it, I'm a huge car guy, and that should more than make up for any "man-point" deficit.
My sense of humor is at best irreverent and off-color, and at worst, a little offensive. Some people just can't take a little sarcasm! Yes, I will laugh at you if you do something silly, and I expect you to do the same to me. The way I look at it, if you can laugh at yourself, everyone else if fair game. Besides, who wants to be around someone who takes themselves so seriously all of the time?
For the most part, I enjoy my work and it takes up a lot of my time, but I still try to make time for friends. After all, achievement is hollow without people to share it with.
As far as who I'm looking to share my time with, I'll just come out and say it: there is nothing as sexy to me as a woman with a great, big... BRAIN. (What did you think I was going to say?) I don't care what kind of a bombshell body a woman has, without the intellectual arsenal to back it up, trying to hold my attention is like trying to hold Asia in Risk. Bonus points if you can make me laugh.
I like a woman who isn't afraid to tell me what she thinks; someone who will support me when I'm right and tell me I'm being an idiot when I'm wrong. I'd rather you tell me the truth than spare my feelings.
With any luck, I hope to meet someone who has some different interests from mine who is willing to share some of them with me, and is willing to partake in some of mine. I've always believed that any kind of relationship is positive when two people can accomplish more together than each one could separately.
