I finished my PhD in 2000 and have lived and worked in SB ever since. My job is both creative and challenging and I work with some very smart people. Backpacking in the sierras is one of my favorite destinations and traveling overseas is something I do pretty much every year. Ultimately I am looking for a life partner. Along the way, I am guessing that I will also make some new friends and expand my social circles. Ideally they are athletic, take care of themselves, and are excited about what they do. Life is an amazing journey and I've been blessed with one full of adventure, travel, wonder and experience. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe..." (Know the movie quote WITHOUT Googling it? If so, you just scored big points with me)!
After visiting something like 15 countries, 35 or so states, I've come to call Santa Barbara home. I've almost always lived near the ocean. Grew up on the California Central Coast, studied in Hawaii for my first two years of college then transferred to Santa Barbara in 1990 and never left.
I coined the term 'surfgoth' because I like both sides of the spectrum: from bright clear warm days at the beach to dark cold foggy/rainy winter nights in the woods. One of my friends recently called me "conflicted"--it was a great joke not far off the mark, BUT, I prefer "quirky" or "eccentric".
An honest-to-goodness hopeless/hopeful romantic...I'm not a "player" and I also believe that chivalry isn't dead. I still open doors, give flowers, and pay compliments unsolicited. I cook, I won't complain (TOO much) about doing dishes or chores, I keep a clean house, I can enjoy a good chick flick just as much as a shoot-'em-up, and I have a cat. She can beat up your pitbull.I'm also a great handyman, I can change a tire in under five minutes, fix a pipe, install a garbage disposal, paint a house, and dig a hole. Me Big Strong Man. Oooga Booga.
I have never watched GLEE.
I also make the best chili in the Multiverse.
I'm hoping to share the Journey with someone of a like mind with an old soul and exuberant youthful outlook who realizes as I do that things are more worthwhile when experienced together. I am sure that you have already found this about two hundred times in all the other lack luster profiles. I believe that words are cheap, but actions speak much louder, so why bother? So, I’m going to start with the bad stuff - I am impulsive and restless at times, I cried twice like a girl when I watched "War Horse," stay up way too late way too often. I have little patience for flakes and fake people - those who smile while being angry on the inside, as I never know what they keep up their sleeve. I also can't stand bigots, liars, prudes, shallow women and drama.
Now on to the good stuff...I live by myself, I pay my own rent, I wear socks that match and I love my mother. I am confident, attractive and a fun person to be around. I love to dance, have fun, and I choose to surround myself with positive people. I am Mexican/Jamaican best of both worlds (born in Mexico City, D.F.). I work hard and play hard. Yes, I still have an accent .I was a New Yorker for little over 10 years I lived in the City mostly, but I spent some time in Upstate New York as well. For the change- and it was some real change- I moved to Tucson Arizona where I spent 5 beautiful years and I loved every minute of it. Little bit over 2 years ago I decided to relocate to Santa Barbara for a job. It was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love it here – who doesn’t - and I love my job. I’m the director of finance for a local company. My job can get pretty busy at times, but I have a very flexible schedule and I try to keep balance between life and work. I go to LA a lot for work and I take advantage of being there and enjoy some fun time going to nice restaurants and shows while I’m there. One of my favorite things to do is traveling I already have my summer planned out New Orleans, Hawaii, and going to New York in the fall. When I’m back in SB I love taking my jet ski down to the Butterfly beach on weekends or go out the Islands with my friends. If I’m in the staying home mood I love cooking for my friends and drinking some good wino My family and friends are very important to me and although my immediate family is in Hungary I still see them on Skype couple of time a week and I’m lucky enough to have two of my best friends as roommates. Being healthy and live a healthy life style is a very important part of my life it includes exercising 4-5 times a week, eating the right food and also being spiritually conscious. I always say" to do the right thing is the most you can do". I try to live my life by that.

I love adventures without a GPS...it makes life so much more interesting. One Halloween my friend and I found a gold mine in Oregon! The guys working the night shift came out with masks on and really gave us a scare! I recently took a friend of mine from Scotland down to LA and we were all around Rodeo Drive, but had a heck of a time finding the actual street...some nice security guard at a high end jewelry store helped us out though!
