The arts are very important to me, particularly music, classic cinema and the theatre. I love exploring a new place, and getting completely lost in the process. (Although not so lost that I can’t find my way back.) Walking and dancing are my favorite forms of exercise. A friend once told me that people who don't know me think I'm quiet, reserved and shy. However, when they dig a little deeper, they often discover that I can be quite extroverted, with a quirky, offbeat charm and an outrageous sense of humor.
My ideal match? She is smart and funny, perhaps even a bit kooky or off-the-wall. Characters are always welcome. She is strong, independent and assertive, yet compassionate, sensitive and open-minded. She is cultured and refined, crass and vulgar, playful and silly, dark and gloomy, gracefully ungraceful, and securely insecure. Extra credit for nerdy academics, classic movie buffs, musicians, artists, comedians, stunt car drivers, and creative dorks of all stripes.
Ultimately what I'm looking for is an equal partner and a best friend. That person could live anywhere in the world. A few more random things about me...
I am very serious about a few very important things but beyond that I don't see much point in getting worked up about much so I mainly just try to enjoy my life. On that note, I do my best not to get distracted by material things and spend very little time fiddling with my smartphone...I'd rather travel a lot and drink decent wine than drive a nice car...and that sort of stuff...
There's still an awful lot I'd like to do and that's pretty much what I focus on. I'm ambitious but not in the usual or "type A" way and don't like to get busy or clutter my days. It still happens but it's not my preferred mode.
I love cities but I also like open spaces and water. To me, the idea of a good time is a long bike ride, a sprawling dinner, a bottle of nice wine, a decent movie, a pig roast, a good cup of coffee. I'm generally healthier than most people (not such a challenge, I suppose...) but do have my weaknesses.
I can usually tell whether I'm going to like someone within just a few minutes of meeting him or her. It's more of a curse than a blessing--but it does help me save a lot of time.
And you...I am attracted to women who are smart, dependable, honest, funny and can communicate well. I get along very well with wise-asses, fast thinkers and those with a good sense for sarcasm and critical thinking ability (I'm from the Northeast...).

Declaring a required laundry list of virtues and interests is predictable and ultimately meaningless. A person's character is revealed not in a sales pitch but in their actions. This takes time to really see. I often say that finding the right person begins with BEING the right person. How often we seem to forget that. Who wouldn't want intelligence, beauty, health, success, humor, kindness, and a dozen other desirable attributes? Rational thought has great value in just about every area but that unpredictable matter of mutual chemistry. We just know it when it happens. All that follows is the adventure of discovery.
