About me:
I live in the Almaden Valley area of San Jose. I have two lovely daughters; one in college, the other will be a senior in high school. The younger one lives with me most of the time. The past several years have been consumed by their activities and life events. As that phase is now starting to wind down; I'm motivated (and being encouraged) to "get back in the game" and meet someone who I can grow with. I have a very demanding job, but my friends would tell you that I'm always up for doing something be it casual or planned out.
I'm a good conversationalist, happy to engage in a wide variety of subjects: business, current events, sports, relationships. I have a very strong moral/integrity compass, much more the "responsible, do-er" type. I don't consider myself to be "needy" and make sure I hold up my end of things when it comes to personal affairs. My family and friends mean everything to me; the ones I'm closest to I have known for many years.

Someone once told me that having passion is the key to living a full life. Those words really resonated with me. Passion can take many forms. For me it’s caring about my family and friends and being there for them when they need me (and even when they don’t need me). Passion for me is climbing a steep, technical hill on my mountain bike and flying down with reckless abandon after reaching the top. I love the feel of hitting a soft 7-iron three feet from the pin. I love the sound of champagne powder under my skis. I love seeing someone laugh and I love making them laugh even more. I have many things to be thankful for and I try to never lose sight of that. I have been fortunate to have retired early in my career so I am able to devote much more time to the people, activities, and causes I am passionate about. I'm a pile of contradictions but if nothing else that makes life interesting. I'm at peace with my situation. I'm a single dad with my amazing 20 year old son living with me when he's not at school impressing his physics professors. I still own horses but I spend a fair amount of time riding a sport touring motorcycle (I concentrate on the sport bike aspect more than use it as a touring bike - I like the speed). I was a high school athlete but I am at most a casual sports fan. I love live theatre but have never performed. A big guy who likes "chick flicks" as much as action movies. I'm as likely to be playing with my son's dog as fixing the cars, trucks & motorcycles. I'd just as soon eat in a taqueria as a great restaurant, sushi bars are favorites, I rarely eat steak. I love treating someone important to me in a way that makes them feel very, very special (and I'll admit to failing to be consistent here in the past - lesson learned!) - but my work is important to me and I take the responsibility of providing employment to my co-workers very seriously. I can talk the ears off a jack rabbit but enjoy sitting on top of a hill watching a sunset with a friend and might go a very long time without a word - a gentle touch often says far more (I'll admit to being an extremely tactile person - contact matters very much to me).
What am I looking for in a partner?
To me nothing is more attractive than confidence, competence and intellect. I've have the life experience some call "baggage", I think its baggage if it weighs you down, if not, it comprises a set of lessons learned thoroughly. I find myself attracted to lively, socially active women who've accomplished something in their lives. That can be in almost any arena - raising kids or caring for parents, to starting a business, to some significant hobby - its more about motivation and dedication than the specific activity. I'm looking for someone to share good times with for now but I expect to move toward more serious situations as time goes on.

I love dancing and though I've never taken a lesson, I'm pretty comfortable in a blues, jazz, or country club, but in general I don't spend much time in a bar. I am an archer though I no longer hunt, I do like to be outdoors but I'm just as comfortable reading in the mountains as riding. I'll admit to being afraid of heights - so of course I repelled down into Moaning Caverns. I like challenges and pushing myself in some areas - but I know how to slow down and chill as well. I appreciate the finer things in life but certainly don't need to be surrounded by them. I'm perfectly happy smoking ribs in my rusty $200 smoker and don't need the $2000 stainless steel unit. Physically, I am very fit. I feel much younger than 58. I work out most mornings, and have a background in professional sports (many years ago, of course). I like to eat healthy whenever possible.
