Date men and women from United States / California / San Gabriel, 35 year old

Date someone special from California, United States. Where do I start? I was born and raised in an italian, irish, and jewish neigborhood in brooklyn new york and though I've called LA my home for the last 6 years i will always be a new yorker at heart. I honestly miss my friends (my best friend is still one of my best friends from 1st grade) and parents who are still in NYC as they are a huge part of who I am but I'm fortunate my 3 older brothers live out here. I ended up moving out here for a business opportunity originally and have since moved on into a separate career entirely.
I'm a pretty laid back and down to earth guy. But as I said I'm a New Yorker at heart so I will always speak my mind and will be blunt when the moment calls for it. I'd like to think I'm ambitious but I feel like I'm constantly struggling to maintain a good balance between work and personal life. At the end of the day I will always put my family/friends ahead of work. Also, I know it's a cliche but life really is too short to spend it working all the time although it's hard. I'm a pretty outgoing guy but I gotta say that I'm not into going to clubs every week anymore. I think I've gone to enough clubs to last a lifetime since I was in high school. I'm up to go clubbing occasionally but I definitelyprefer to be chilling at a bar grabbing a few drinks and having good conversation. I also love a good laugh and love improv shows as well as stand up. I have to admit I haven't done much as far as hobbies since I've been out here. But I just got on a bball team so I making progress. I want to start hiking more since that's something that I couldn't really do back in NYC. I've been meaning to learn how to snowboard.. oh and I also just brushed up on my salsa skills recently..
If I were to describe some of the traits I look for in a girl they'd be: good hearted, independent, opinionated but able to listen and consider other people's views, good sense of humor (meaning you need to also laugh at my jokes ;) ) , have a passion about something in life, good communicator (meaning you also can communicate your emotions well as I can't always know exactly how you're feeling or what you're thinking.. though I was a psych major in college but still) , open minded, spontaneous , ambitious (meaning you're not complacent), thoughtful.. These are just qualities I'm thinking of off the top of my head. I think you learn from every relationship what you want and like.
