Well.....I live in Old Town Alexandria, although because my business manager/accountant in San Francisco (area code 94111) pays my credit card, Match lists me in that area code. I'm indeed in the movie business, so people always ask, "Why are you not living in LA?". Well, I currently, I'm involved in a movie that will be shooting in Europe plus other films and TV, so it was easy for me to spend here. I do have a second residence in San Francisco, which I do not frequent much anymore. That's my geography. Now for my soul: I hope that you find me compassionate, interesting, and special. I have had a great ride through life - fine upbringing, good education, and a fairly fascinating career that has allowed me to see many things and meet fabulously interesting people - some I'd like to see again, and others...well...whoa (behind every People Magazine profile is an adventure!). Oh, also since some women ask why if I'm a film director I'm not dating actresses, etc. Well, I don't date anyone I work with or have the potential to work with - simple as that. Of course, that makes me a "big brother" to some, and when they get in trouble or challenged, I get the panicked phone call. I also do not gab to the press, which makes me a target for referrals....so I get panicked phone calls from people I don't even know! True! LOL.
Let's see, background? Grew up in Europe (American parents), lived in Hawaii and California, as I've mentoned. While I've spent a lot of time in the Washington DC, I do have a "Western spirit" - a little more smile with even serious things, which hopefully you'll enjoy. Should I go back to talking about profession? OK, just a bit. While I am in a creative field, I'm not the beatnik, indie-film-scrapping-by type. You probably can tell by my photo, I wear ties to meetings (hey, we're spending loads of money, so we should show respect to people writing the checks). I love what I do; my work is fun and affords me the finer things in life, and that's what sets the next paragraph up.
I am looking for a (wonderful) person, someone who is accomplished in her own right and is comfortable (and enjoys) a sophisticated lifestyle. I'm certainly not looking for a "trophy"...rather an equal, a true partner in life. Someone who will enjoy new pursuits, both professional and personal. A serious relationship (please, no serial daters). (I'm on match.com in order to spread my "opportunity circle", as someone called it, as I don't date employees, clients, or friends of either.) I also hope to find someone NOT AFRAID of commitment. My heart's been broken enough by a serious relationship or two when an extraordinary woman just can't pull the trigger for marriage. I am the type that when I fall in love, I give my all. There is a lot of vulnerability in that. One of my business partners said that I should play hard to get, that a woman wants a little bad boy somewhere in the soul. I told her (my biz partner; both partners are female) that it would be unfair to do so; why lure someone with being unlike who I truly am. So I don't play that game. I may be a complex fit - especially in the D.C. area - because I'm fun and witty and hopeful, plain full of life and smiles while at the same time doing serious work (I take the movies we're making as important efforts because whether it's a drama or comedy - we have both - all our work can enlarge an audience's sympathies). I'm a romantic - sometimes naively so, but I wouldn't want to change me. Anyway, now you have it.

Sure, I like to have fun, travel, do all those things that everybody else on this site claims to do: Ski, Horseback Riding, White Water Rafting, Hiking, Mountain Climbing, Fish Mongering. Ok, maybe not fish mongering. And maybe not any of the others, except hiking. But, I'm game for trying most of them, again except perhaps Fish Mongering and Mountain Climbing.
I'm looking for a partner in what I would describe as a "real" life. One that involves unplanned dinners because we were late coming from work, daily trips to the grocery store, post office, emergency car repairs. Dining and travel are but such a small part of daily life, so I'd rather focus on the larger aspects.
I want communication that can be free and open; at times, that can mean passionate and disagreeable. I don't like the silent treatment and can agree to disagree. It may take me a few minutes, but I always apologize when I am wrong; and often when I am not because humility is always good, and I appreciate harmony more than being "right".
I am intelligent, witty, generous, and loving. I'm also about as forgiving a person as you could hope to meet, and have absorbed the implied punishments of being so.
I have varied interests. I am technical by profession, but it does not define me (in other words, my socks always match). I am flexible and usually enjoy new experiences. Please note "usually". I can be reticent at times, but I warm up as I get to know people and new things. I've had my share of failures in my life; some I've learned from, others I'll probably need to experience again.
However, I do have a much softer and lighter side. Having raised three daughters by myself, I have what might be considered peculiar tastes, at least amongst my ESPN addicted brothers. It's impossible to raise princesses and retain your mysogynist boy's club membership card. Yes, that means my extra-guilty pleasure is... wait for it: Chick Flicks. I know. Pathetic.
Oh, and Jane Austen. No, not the movies... ok, yeah, the movies, but I've also read them all, multiple times. Perhaps someday a bored sociology researcher will conduct a study of all the men that have actually read Austen, all 9 of us, and develop a personality profile based upon chosen favorites. It's Persuasion, by the way. What does that say to you?
Let's see... what else? I don't do seasons. Not Trout, Deer, Elk, Football, Baseball, or Basketball. Fantasy sports? To me that involves things that are better left unmentioned. I appreciate effortless conversation, humor, the elegance of a French manicure and red painted toes in open shoes. I like the slightly strange taste of lipstick, the natural curve of the hip, and a feminine wardrobe that extends beyond jeans and hoodies. I adore classic cinema and believe William Powell and Myrna Loy to be my actual parents. I'll grant you, the timeline is fuzzy, but hey, this is my profile. I think the Opera is a life-giving force and music after the 80's and 90's is an alien mind control experiment.
Also, I read. Much. So, if books, newspapers, online blogs, journals, and endless yet entertaining discussions about them isn't your thing, well, neither am I probably. You should probably also know that I take my politics seriously, to the point of writing publicly about it regularly; and while I admire Mary Matalin and James Carville, I doubt I'm made of the same stuff. Or to put it more succinctly, if you self-identify as a conservative, we're likely not a match.
I lived in Seattle for 15 years and decided to pen a new chapter in the story of my life. It opened in August of last year in the this area. I'm currently searching for characters to join me in my adventures: taking up golf and fly fishing, visiting S.F. for the Opera, exploring California by motorcycle, and just generally living an active life.
