Sunset Cliffs listening to the waves while meditating. Talking till we fall asleep...Bubble baths...Walking.. Hiking...Writing my book. The smell of sheets dried in the sun. Dancing slow to a fast song. Being boyish a lot of the times.... Exercise and healthy eating..Singing (A little karaoke is fun). Sacrifice. (Donated 80% of my clothes in January to prove to myself that things are just that, things.) Although, I'll be more than happy for all that you have accomplished. . Having learned that life is not about me. I'm always a part of man's search for happiness. Happiness is easy to find. "pure joy" is the difficult one. That is found when one is "always" focused on "her".
About the one I'm looking for...
Up front, I'm not really that comfortable at the black tie dinner. Although, I would do anything for "her." Anything.
Meeting the right one on Match is going to be difficult, at best, for me. I'm a happy energy person. I still have a curiosity for life. I'm determined to have some of the best times of my life, from this point forward. She'll know that I'm focused on her and not myself.. When I mentioned "dancing to a slow song." That describes me. Not willing to be like everybody else. Not willing to "settle in." So, girl, if you want to go with the top down, and enjoy this wonderful world, and all that it offers, and laugh more than you've ever laughed in your life, and be ready for a lot of romance, (heck, I wrote the how-to for men book on it called Guys Just Don't Get It. There is a web page with the same name) then, catch your breath, tuck in your shirt, put on your happy face, and enjoy the dance. I'm a cancer survivor, love survivor, and poverty survivor. I''ll probably never be rich. I've no time for that.

I recently retired as a College Professor - mainly teaching graduate level classes. Now that I am retired, I want to start enjoying life more.
I have traveled to many countries, mainly on cruises, from Mexico, to Central America, to Canada to the Caribbean and even to Russia. I have been to many of the Mayan Ruins in Central America and Mexico. Several years ago I traveled to Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales and want to return there soon. My grandfather was born in Ireland and I am trying to learn more about his family.
I enjoy a good cup of coffee – I grind my own blend of coffee everyday. Whenever I travel anywhere, I always try to pick-up up some locally roasted coffee. I have scored good coffee from Jamaica (yes, Blue Mountain); Costa Rica; Honduras; Cozumel; San Sebastian, MX; Belize; Grand Caymans; Cuban Coffee (no, I have been there yet, but it is on my list – I found this great local roasting place in Ybor City, FL – great Cuban Coffee and very cheap); Jacksonville, OR; and even in Moscow – now I understand why some Russians drink so much Vodka or Georgian Wine.
I enjoy most music from Rock Roll to Country to . . . I have been to many concerts including the Beatles, the Stones, the Coasters, Little Richard, Jackson Browne, Ike and Tina Turner, James Brown, the Eagles and even Sony Cher. I have even been to the Grand Old Opry.
I was fortunate to see the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia. And I even see Mikhail Baryshnikov perform in White Horse. While doing a river cruise of the Volga River, I was able to enjoy a day at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. You can see I have a very eclectic taste in music and the arts.
I have been research on the Civil War; ever since I found out that my maternal great-grandfather spend four years as a Confederate Officer. To say the information about my great grandfather and the Civil War was a surprise would be an understatement. I must add that he later became a Justice of the Peace in Texas.
I have always been politically active starting with the days of marching with Cesar Chavez and the farm workers, to protesting the Viet Nam War to working full-time for the McGovern campaign, to name a few. I was an early supporter of Barack Obama and was very pleased with the US Supreme Court decision regarding the Affordable Health Care Act.
I enjoy all types of foods; I only wish they would cook the Sushi a little more. Whenever I travel, I like to try the local cuisine. My motto is “have GPS, will travel”.
I will be leaving this site on Labor Day Weekend.

I have plenty of opportunities from which to select. I am a member of many service organizations (mainly sports) and I belong to many private clubs here in San Diego and La Jolla. I am a lucky guy. I have been very fortunate throughout my life, starting at home with 6 super siblings and loving parents. Beyond good fortune I try to do things that contribute to good health, friendships, and successful career. I am rooted in a Mid-Western tradition of gentlemanly manners with respect and a protective (not possessive or controlling) regard for women. A pretty good listener with others, I also need a relationship in which I can express how I feel and what is important to me as well. My relationships with family and friends, and especially being a Dad, has given the most meaning to my life. Social responsibility and making a contribution to society are values I think I have lived, but by no means perfectly. Experiences are more important to me than accumulating pricey material things, although I do buy a $1 Lottery ticket with each fill-up and I like my big screen tv! I know how to use a drill and like to wash my own car. In the kitchen I have been doing basic survival cooking with my Geporge Foreman grill, supplemented by Trader Joe's, and have begun trying new recipes. I would enjoy cooking, tasting and laughing together. On my list of activities to get into are kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, dancing, learning more about sailing, and more traveling, near and far.
My desire is to develop a trusting friendship with the right happy woman, to grow over time with both common experiences and adventures, into a loving, committed companionship. To share each others families and friends, laughs, heartaches, challenges and passions. The woman I hope to go through the next chapters with would share a mutual attraction on many levels, be warm, stimulating intellectually (curiosity and learning about the world and people is more important to me than a diploma of "higher education"), adventurous, fun to be with, romantic, and enjoy lots of affectionate teasing! She would be physically fit, sensuous, feminine and attractive but not more concerned about how her hair or make-up looks than getting into the water or perspiring on a hike. Like me, she would prefer to be comfortably and casually dressed but able to scrub-up pretty well when necessary or for a fun night out.
In choosing my Match nickname I grabbed the title of what was my favorite comedy for decades, "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor--my newer favorite is "Princess Bride", but that just doesn't give the impression that I am shooting for here! Mine could not have been planned better, leading to a positive attitude accepting change easily. While Big Bear City, CA has been my weekend getaway - great spot for a cabin to enjoy year round recreation - boating, water skiing, snow skiing (grandson does the boarding) fishing, and occassionally some adventure pass hikes (nice to have a tour guide who can tell you what you are looking at .........at least I think they know!!)
