Travel is a passion of mine and I welcome any opportunity to explore the world. My role model is my grandfather ... at the age of 92, he is on the golf course three days a week, is physically and mentally sharp, super positive and has the charisma to keep the ladies calling him for a date night (although he loved his wife until the day she passed).
When it comes to a relationship, I treat others as I would want to be treated ... which can be listening to you about a crappy day or challenging you to achieve something you have talked about but have not done. About HER: She is someone who can have a good time just about anywhere. She is a lady and can carry herself well when she needs to. She is strong, but also needs or desires support at times. I have to admit that I'm not a veteran of the dating scene, and this online dating thing is outside my comfort zone, so please bear with my inadvertent bungling. If it helps, people say I'm a lot like Helen Hunt was in Mad About You (with a little Elaine Benes thrown in, having always been "one of the guys"--but I'm a better dancer!). I'm pretty happy and comfortable with my life as it is but was thinking it might be time for a bit of a jolt--so here I am. You should probably know up front that I'm all about keeping it real--from not wearing makeup to just being myself, not willing to conform to anyone's ideal just to make myself more appealing.
About me, you ask? I was born a poor black child... (sorry--I actually used that in my personal essay for entrance into UCSD back in the day... and, yes, it worked!) I'm a childfree, eco-minded, nature-loving, non-conformist liberal who really doesn't like to take life too seriously (most of the time, at least!). I have a great group of friends and the rare distinction of having a job that I love (with a lot of time off--bonus!!). I do make less money than some of you seem to want but make enough for what I need and refuse to carry debt. That said, I'm selective about where I spend my money and simply can't justify spending a lot on nice restaurants and the like--and am not (please see the "not") one of those women who thinks men should have to pay for everything, so I tend to lean toward free/inexpensive dates. Honestly, I probably wouldn't do fancy/pricy even if I was rich (just not into "keeping up with the Joneses", "luxuries" and such)... so, if you're OK with that, keep reading.
Regarding body type... I'd say I'm more "fit" than "athletic and toned" (though, with someone to exercise more with, that would change quickly). I'm not into gyms; my exercise comes in the form of evening walks at Miramar Lake or the beach and hiking (OK... and Wii). I have a kayak that's dying to stop being wall art, would love to have a guy teach me to surf, and could get into riding... but if you ever see me running, it means something's chasing me (even then, I'd be compelled to just curl up and play 'possum!).
I tend to avoid people who are jealous, possessive, controlling, insecure or who need 24/7 contact (aka smothering); spending time together is great, but you need to be OK with time apart as well. If you believe in and put effort into a true partnership, have a great sense of humor, aren't "too cool" to be goofy, have respect for the environment/nature and like to be outdoors (hiking, camping, etc), can carry on intelligent conversation (intelligence and sense of humor are my major turn-ons), love to travel, would prefer a deserted island over big-city chaos, don't bleed red-white-and-blue (I dream about retiring elsewhere), aren't obsessed with your phone, don't feel the need to flaunt money and don't need a "girlie girl" on your arm, we're on the right track. If you have or want kids, jump off the train now... that's a non-negotiable (you also need to like cats). I can be somewhat passionate about political issues (not an activist, though, if that's how that reads!), so if you support today's Republican party, we won't be a good match. I'm also not too big on organized religion, so if it's central to your life, you'll want to skip me. Ya, I have a mind and opinions and know how to use them. ;-)
