And that can be another cup o' French Roast and a cinnamon sinker on Sunday morning too. It's a spiritual thing, y'know? I'm a self-employed fine artist, cartoonist, and teacher who loves his work and the freedom and responsibility such work brings, demanding at times, but also excellent to savor a hike in the hills on a Wednesday. Our time is our only true currency. Soulful expression commands my attention, whether it is Jerry Douglas playing haunting, masterful dobro at Telluride Bluegrass, Monet's pastels at the Musee D'Orsay, or Federer's clean ground strokes carving up a tennis court. Poetry in motion, easier to appreciate as an observer than to do, but we all serve up a few stinkers getting there. Are not our most ignoble foibles recipes for grand humor? Twain's were. They make for the merriest conversation over a brewski afterward when we find our ego bent but not broken. Where would we be without the mirthful recounting of an acrobatic face-plant on a Sierra slope? Tales get taller with time. Nothing like good physical effort and a gathering laugh bubbling up from your depths to sharpen your appreciation of the moment. And yet what gently tumbles your cerebral concerns into that ancient, familiar place than witnessing a sunset over a mountain range you spent the day hiking through, or seeing the light of self-discovery in a child's eyes when he completes a hard-won project that you both know is REALLY good, or glimpsing the soul of a friend and love when her light shines...Keeps me searchin' for a Heart of Gold...I'm intrigued with the potential of this new medium for meeting a fine, grounded woman who expects and respects integrity in her friends and in herself. She's found fulfilling work, but it is just a part of an expanding life. Does a sunrise over Haleakala or Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" stir your soul, and again inform you that divine expression, wherever you recognize it, is fundamental to your wellbeing? Can you embrace the loss of a loved one with the same depth you dance into blissful adventure? Can you hold your own differing opinion and still retain the warmth of friendship? Can you laugh at the end of a day when really bad hair was just the beginning, and yer boyfriend is, like, really engrossed in the 49'ers game at the moment with a beer and a piece of bologna stuck to his front tooth? Do you laugh (discreetly) at bad toupes, the John Stewart Show, and Craig Ferguson's monologues? Will you risk a response and possibly ...an excellent adventure?

A single divorced professional who enjoys his work, is well traveled, listens to NPR, likes books, fine food, outdoors, theater, and a good cause (doing volunteer work regularly). I like the sense of well-being that comes from regular strenuous exercises. My mind comes alive when my body is happy. I love the "aha" that comes from understanding a new concept or a puzzling problem. I enjoy the sense of anticipation as the curtain rises for a live performance. I treasure the memories of wild places and secluded lakes that I have visited in dozens of backpacking trips (often in the Sierra Nevada, but also in Canadian Rockies, Grand Canyon and other places). I love the sense of fellowship and camaraderie that grow among friends who work for a common cause. I enjoy looking at and working in my backyard garden, contemplating the changing seasons and things that grow, give pleasures and values to others, and die.
I had travelled widely, not only in Europe and North America, but also in South, East and SE Asia (about 35 countries in total). I was lucky to had taken the "hippie road" between Europe and India (i.e., through Turkey, Iran, and Afghanistan) before it became too dangerous. I really enjoyed a nature-oriented trip to Costa Rica earlier this year. I am very much looking for a companion with whom I can share more adventures both here and abroad.
Not owning a TV for a number of years, I get most of my movie and occasional TV entertainment through Netflix. Increasing amount of my reading is coming from the web or as electronic books. I have not joined the smart phone revolution though.
