I'm passionate about my work as a documentary filmmaker focusing on American Indian issues and stories. I'm a proud progressive liberal who believes we have a moral responsibility to help our fellow human beings and that our government should reflect that core principle. So if you worship Fox News and listen to Rush Limbaugh and other right wing mouthpieces we won't gel.
One thing I am not, is mainstream, and I gravitate towards people whose tastes are also outside the mainstream, in entertainment, music, movies, TV, etc. I've been told that I am a unique, compassionate and striking man with a great sense of humor. I can make you laugh! I believe age is 50% biological and 50% mental, so naturally I refuse to think old and I do everything I can to keep a youthful outlook on life. A healthy lifestyle and music keep me young.
I love music, too many bands to mention and I go to about 20 concerts a year, mostly small venues like The Fillmore. I grew up in the 70s listening to classic rock, ventured into punk my senior year in high school, then post-punk and new wave to alternative rock, to indie rock. Favorite contemporary bands are Interpol, Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, The National, Muse, Radiohead. All time favs include Peter Gabriel, REM, Tragically Hip, Joy Division, The Smiths, Peter Murphy, Psychedelic Furs, Echo & the Bunnymen, Kate Bush. I also love obscure bands like Cocteau Twins, Curve, Lush, Grant Lee Buffalo, and singer songwriters Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, and many more.
Obviously I love movies, but not your mainstream Hollywood blockbusters, rather, I prefer films that challenge me as a viewer, Indie films, foreign films, documentaries, and of course the well made Hollywood films that seem to come out at the end of the year in time for the Oscar hunt.
I used to read much more than I do, it seems time is more limited now days. I prefer nonfiction, as I was born (so my my mom says) with a keen sense of curiosity about the world and issues that are important to me, although, I have read my share of the classics, Thomas Hardy probably being my favorite.
I also keep in shape physically, working out 4-5 days a week depending on my work schedule, and I watch my diet. I am not vain, but I strongly believe that if you want to enjoy life it helps to be healthy and how can you have respect for yourself if you don't respect your body
While I enjoy conversations on any subject, experience has shown me that relationships have a better survival rate when couples start out pretty much aligned on politics, religion, and entertainment tastes. What am I looking for?
