Date single man from California, United States. I am no longer a member of match. I am now on ok cupid. Same user name without the numbers. I have been separated for a almost 3 years now. I remain very committed to my children who live with me nearly half time. They are both teenagers which allows me quite a bit of "me time". I coach my daughter in soccer which I love. Howver, coaching a team of 14 to 18 year old girls is quite a challenge. I have lived in several places around the country and have now settled here. I will retire from the military next and at that time return to my nursing career.
Although my profile says "separated", there are reasons for not getting a divorce yet. Just ask. No chance of reconciliation.
A few other random things about me. I used to love mountain biking and I tolerated daily running. However, orthopedic surgeon told me my knees can't handle it any more. (I just figured the pain was part of the workout). Now I walk 3-5 miles a day to keep off the excess tonnage. I still enjoy a good bicycle ride but keep it more on the level these days. My mountain bike sobs in the corner.
I am relatively house broken. I rarely have dirty dishes in my sink. I'm not a great cook but can follow a recipe pretty well. And I always put the seat down. I was raised to open the door for women, pull out your chair, take your coat, etc.
Someone asked me about all the different looks in my profile pictures. Had a mustache until my daughter pointed out that her 77 year old grandfather had less gray hair in his mustache than her father did. Time to shave. Then, one of her friends mentioned that I was getting a bald spot. I didn't think it was an issue until she said, "but it's not in the middle". So, if my hair didn't have the common courtesy to fall out evenly, I shaved it off.
What am i looking for? I think I know more what I'm not looking for. I would prefer to meet someone who doesn't have young children. Although I love and cherish the time raising my children, been there done that with young children. Prefer not to do it again.
At this age, I think we all have a certain amount of baggage. But, it's how we carry our baggage that's important.

Meet single man from United States. I have to say with honesty that the best job I ever had was to be the father of my three children, I couldn't have been able to get where I am now without them. Today I'm almost at the end of this stage of my life and I'm going to try to get a friend, a partner, an associate, a fiance, a wife, in order to share so much experience accumulated through life and together been able to enjoy the many adventures and positive situations that are out there.

I always been an adventurous guy. In my younger years I would leave on a dime across the world with no plans made and always had the best of times. I moved to Hawaii just to learn to windsurf and ended up living on Maui, sailing everyday or golfing if the wind wasn't blowing. I'm not as free as those days now, but I still travel when I can. If the closest I ever get to winning the lottery was growing up in rural West Marin, I'll take it. Life in a small agricultural town emphasized values such as family, friendship, honesty, hard work, and taking delight in life's simple pleasures. My best friend from high school, who owns a 4th generation organic dairy nestled along the Pacific, remains my best friend. Growing up in such a splendid natural setting also gave me a deep appreciation for being active, being outdoors, and finding spirituality in being close to nature. Although I now live in the suburbs and love to get to the City often, West Marin still feels like home to me. Bury me there.
"Selfishly Giving Back". I wish I could say that I give of my time and money to worthwhile causes with the same selfless spirit that Mother Teresa did. I give back simply because I derive great pleasure in doing so. I have been a Rotarian for over 20 years, am a Big Brother to Jeremy who is now age 18, and serve on the Board of The San Francisco Food Bank. My experience with the Food Bank has brought about a profound change in me as it has substantially heightened my level of gratitude. I find now that most meals I eat are accompanied by a wave of thankfulness for the privlege of eating as I am now keenly aware that there are so many people, here and abroad who do not have such a luxury. I seldom take for granted many things in my life that I once often took for granted.
I am at my core, an athlete. From Little League through college, I was constantly involved in competetive sports. In my life, I much more often draw from the lessons I learned in sports than from what I learned in a class room. Attributes such as team work, preparation, persistency, resiliency, and working toward a common goal. My college football coach was a world class teacher and he concentrated most on building character. Along the way, his teams won three national championships. My teammates and I hold a special reverance for him. Today, I still enjoy working out regularly and typically enter one triathlon a year to help enhance the focus of my workouts. I would never have imagined that I would try and like yoga this year and now I am hooked. It's a wonder drug. I am however now the target of hazing from my football buddies.

I am a recovering alcoholic. This year marks 10 years of sobriety for me. I realize that I risk you reading this and reading no further. I share this fact in the spirit of openness and honesty. In my day, I did not drink often, but when I did....hmmm....let's just say that my stories would make for an interesting book. Maybe a movie. The past decade has brought me a wonderful journey to a heightened level of self-awareness and self-understanding. I am comfortable being around people who are drinking. I am comfortable being in a relationship with a woman who drinks in moderation. If going wine tasting every weekend is high on your list of things to do, I am likely not the match for you. If going wine tasting occasionally is, then I am in and can play a mean game of designated driver.
I love the life I have led thus far and wouldn't change a thing (I might delete disco music). I want my eulogy to end with, "and most of all, he was a great husband and a terrific father." I have a vision of falling happily in love forever more, of marital bliss (98.8% of the time), and of a warm and loving family. This is my favorite vision of all :)
